When McCann got up to hit I told my wife, "Let's get a home run and get the top of the order back up." Next pitch, bomb to right.

Not much would please me more than to shut these fkrs down Tuesday and win it in 6. The media has had their throats full of so much dodger dick, it would be spectacular to hear what they say.

I am beginning to love baseball again.

Yes, baseball can rip your heart right out of your chest, but it certainly is more American and more welcoming than the politically-charged, politically correct, player-kneeling Anti-National Football League.

I realized last night that baseball is the pinnacle in the evolution of the human game. It moved beyond the rectangular playing field and removed the clock entirely.

Baseball is a game of man vs. man, and yet team vs. team at the same time. On the one hand, it's a dual between the batter and the pitcher, like an old Western shootout. At the same time, it is a team sport that gets even better as the teams draw closer together. It is a game that thrives off statistics and is effected by superstition. It is a game that can be played anywhere by anyone and has a minor league system like no other.

There are no politics. There are no personal statements. There is just baseball, hotdogs and enjoyment by everyone from the players on the field to the fans in the stands.

It is America's greatest pastime because it actually is a pastime and it is authentically American.

I see why my grandpa so adored this game.

I can't believe I got to witness that in person. I really can't think of a way to top that experience minus that type of game happening in Game 7 here in Houston in a future World Series.

MLB right now is loving the NFL scandal. They have been trying to regain the throne of top dog since the strikes/lockouts in the 80s/90s and they are seeing their chance. MLB executives have to be thanking their lucky stars for a World Series like this, it is exactly what is needed to pull even more fans their way. They have a ways to go, but MLB is starting to grow the fan base again and it is at the expense of the NFL's political grandstanding.

I wonder if any of those execs are crying tears that their precious Yankees didn't make it?

Doesn't hurt the MLB that the Final Four came from New York, LA, Chicago and Houston, the four largest cities in the nation and the #1,2,3 and 8 television markets.

And, the World Series is between the most populated city in the nation's most populated state and the most populated city in the nation's second most populated state.

That has to be great for MLB.

I think the best game I ever saw was back in 1985. Mets rookie Haden Siddhartha Finch was pitching for the NY team against the Reds in early April - I think it was around the 1st. Some offbeat scout had found Finch and brought him right up to the majors as it was the end of the season. They gave him a locker next to George Foster and Daryl Strawberry.

To this day, no one has thrown a better radar checked fastball than Finch. He absolutely blew up the Reds that day. Outside of walking a couple of guys and breaking Dave Concepcin's wrist with one of his fastballs, absolutely incredible. It was the Mets first no-hitter that year.

Then the bombshell, the next day Finch retires from baseball. What a talent that never was...

For years, the gold standard of WS games was Red Sox-Reds Game 6 in 1975, along with game 7 in 1960 (Mazeroski's walkoff HR for the Bucs to beat the Yankees). But 3 of the last 6 WS games could arguably equal them (game 7 last year, + games 2 and 5 this year).
