A pro golf tipster has taken notice of Jimmy's resurgence

Final Bet: Jimmy Walker each-way @ 100/1

Jimmy Walker's revival has been one of the lower-key stories on the PGA Tour in recent weeks but a heartening one for those who backed him in his pomp and have cheered him on ever since.

Walker won six times on the PGA Tour from 2013 to 2016, rounding off that golden streak with victory in the 2016 PGA Championship at Baltusrol.

After contracting Lyme disease in 2017, it's been a struggle but he's certainly showing some promising signs in 2023.

A 13th in the Farmers Insurance Open looked a bit like a flash in the pan given that it was surrounded by five missed cuts.

But starting with a 22nd in the Texas Open, Walker has reeled off four top 25s in individual play, the latest two a 15th in the Mexico Open and a 14th in last week's Wells Fargo Championship where he closed with a trio of 68s.

A hot putter has played a big part but he's recorded positive numbers in all five main Strokes Gained categories (Off The Tee, Tee To Green, Approach, Around The Green and Putting) in the last two events.

In other words, Walker's upturn in fortunes is based on solid foundations across the board.

He spoke in length about his struggles at the RBC Heritage where he opened with a pair of 65s before finishing 25th.

The upbeat part of that interview was this simple line: "Yeah, it's cool to be back. Maybe I have a chance to really do something special."

So why not this week?

Walker's problem has always been some wonky driving but this an easy driving week and the rough isn't as thick as usual.

And, of course, Walker is a Texas local. In his pomp, he was a winner of the Texas Open and a runner-up in this event when held at Four Seasons Resort.

Walker, once a top 10 player in the world rankings, can hopefully give us a good run at 100/1.

Jimmy has it kind of stuck in neutral so far today. He's -1 at the turn and T74.

This will be a total birdie-fest unless the weather becomes a factor. Hopefully Jimmy can get it in gear and find 3 or 4 birdies on the back.

-2 thru 13 holes T61st
He needs a 5 under (66) to crack the Top 25, yes they are going low today.

Jimmy supposed to be in S.A. Sat night for induction in S.A. sports hall of fame, maybe they will set up Zoom, thankful he made cut and his golf more important this weekend.

Ended up -1 for the day.

About a $20k paycheck.

Puts him over $1mm for the tour season.

I was happy for Jason Day to get back in the winners circle.

That's who Jimmy outdueled to win the PGA Championship in Batsurol. Maybe seeing Day get it done after battling health issues for 5 years will provide a little incentive to Jimmy.

Time for the second major of the year....the PGA Championship at Oak Hill in Rochester, NY. Oak Hill has hosted the PGA Championship in 2003 and 2013. Shaun Micheel won in 2003 and Jason Dufner won in 2013. Since it was last played in 2013 the course has added 200 yards to it's length. I've heard several people comparing it lately to Winged Foot with a premium placed on driving length and accuracy.

Jimmy has 400:1 odds to lift the Wannamaker on Sunday.

Driver accuracy has always been Jimmy's Achilles Heel. Bummer.

Jimmy is +1 through 13 holes which is actually good enough for T17th. There are currently only 8 players under par. This course is a real test.

If Jimmy can end up somewhere close to even par he'll be in decent shape probably.

Jimmy finished +3 and is currently tied for 84th. I'm betting he actually moves up some once these PM players get deeper into their rounds.

The current leader is comeback kid Dechambeau at -4.

The current predictions for the potential cut line tomorrow are pretty crazy

Some stud players got their asses kicked by Oak Hill today.

Jason Day +6
Jon Rahm +6
Matt Fitzpatrick +6
Niemann +4
Spieth +3

Jimmy did move up 21 spots with all the afternoon carnage. He's gone from 84th to 63rd. Definitely positioned to make the cut with a good round tomorrow.
MrGolfguy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The projected cut is set at +3 right now, exactly where JW is. He's gonna need an Even par or better round today to be sure he's safe.
Well I ain't no greenhorn!!

Without touching a club JW has already moved up 4 spots with other players moving backwards.

I can't imagine what kind of scores a 18 handicapper would shoot out there.

Cut line has now risen to +4 and may continue to climb. As other golfers fall back Jimmy is now up to T46 with his +3.

Saw a video where a few pro's were asked that question. Answer most given was over 120

The good news....the projected cutline has now moved to +5....the bad news is that JW is +3 through his first 4 holes and now at +6.
MrGolfguy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Jimmy is +7 thru 14 holes today, cut still at +5
He needs 2 birdies out of his last 4 holes or he's toast
Well I ain't no greenhorn!!
