Theoretically, there were a few, but the odds were too low for each. Then, Trump executed well. And none of his opponents did. As USUALLY happens, the challengers looked formidable on paper, but shrank when they stepped up into the glare of the lights on the national stage.

I'd prefer Trump/DeSantis, but smart money would be on Trump/Haley.

I would be disappointed if it was Trump/Haley. Needs to be Trump/DeSantis or perhaps a Trump/Noem. Would really like a Trump/Huckabee-Sanders ticket

Do you really believe Donald Trump is going to be found innocent on both the state and federal charges and defeat the Democratic Party nominee in the general election this November ?
Of course he does. His sycophants could never be accused of thinking rationally.

I am actually not a huge fan of Trump (he had his shot/time in the Big chair and I'm ready to move on to another candidate)

But it's pretty mean spirited to call the majority of the GOP voting base "sycophants".

Maybe we need to spend some time analyzing why Trump connects so well with the majority voters in the party in a way others don't?

And the answer can not be "me smart…voters stupid"
Sure it can. We have one of the least-informed electorates in the world. As a nation, we are near dead last in terms of our education system, when compared to other Western nations. Like it or not, we are a society of very ill-informed voters, and that exists all across the spectrum. You call that mean-spirited. I call it just stating the obvious. I suspect you wouldn't have a problem at all with me calling those on the left ill-informed.

Now, that's not to say that people cannot identify with and connect with Trump, and what he was purportedly trying to do with his presidency. Hell, I liked the outsider perspective, and no-nonsense he brought to the table. I liked the non-interventionist approach, the crackdown on illegal immigration (somewhat) and calling out China. But at some point, the excess baggage and lack of results should be a stark reminder for MAGA that Trump is not the answer. He had his shot, and failed.

Trump has a cult of personality surrounding him among MAGA. That is a problem that most conservatives should be able to recognize, you included.

I think Trump/Noem is by far the most likely scenario. He has repeatedly praised her, and Noem has stayed away from criticizing Trump.

They just want to see a few more months of Trumps stand up comedy routine.

Then when the inevitable lose occurs; instead of blaming the candidate's obvious pitfalls they will say its the 'fault' of the voters.

Maybe being continually failed and lied to by their leaders sent them looking for a fundamentally different candidate.

While I didn't like any of those candidates, calling them madmen is a bit of a stretch, don't you think? None of them were as unstable as our last commander-in-chief. And none of them had a cult of personality surrounding them.

Problem with Trump is he failed and lied as well. Spent like a drunk liberal, and failed for the most part on the vast majority of his campaign promises (see the border wall).

I certainly understand the attraction to Trump. I like the same things about him that you and the rest of MAGA did. But at some point, one has to face reality.

it is in fact the fault of the voters.. they voted for a primary canidate that cant win the general and they didnt vote as a block to win the general. That is all on the voters, not a group of voters but ALL of the voters.

Most voters in the US are stupider than Forest Gump when it comes to Civics and they enjoy being lied to about how the politicians are gonna make their impossible utopia if you will just vote for them..

Mayor Newsome said in 2004 he would clean up homeless problem.. now he Gov of Cali and homeless is worse than ever where he was mayor and all across cali as Gov. They will vote him in as president so he can finally solve it right?!

By such 'rationale' it is not the responsibility of the Republican National Committee to support the most viable candidate.

By such 'rationale' every single time the Republicans nominated a clear loser ( like Barry Goldwater ) it was only the 'fault of the voters '.

Dems have obviously been manipulating their nomination selection for years. All one has to do is recall what happened to ol' Bernie TWICE. Democratic Party leadership realized Bernie could not possibly win a general election, so once he became the primary front runner; they submarined his campaign in 2016 and 2020.

Now you no doubt remember this .

But it suits your bizarre narrative to not apply such ruthless , yet necessary political action to Republicans.

Instead you are going to nominate an old fat, unstable narcissist currently facing state and federal charges.

Yeah how could anyone fail to support such a nominee ?

You must not read my posts. I have repeatedly gone on record as saying I likewise voted for Trump twice, and will vote for him again if he's the nominee because despite my disappointment with him, as a conservative, he's better than the alternative.

If you will read my posts a little closer, you will see I have never said don't vote for him if he's the nominee. I've said we (conservatives) need to move on from him as a candidate, as the guy will not win, despite the fact he will receive my vote if he's the nominee.

So no, I don't consider your parents (or myself) idiots or rubes by voting for the lesser of the evil. The rubes and idiots are those who will support the guy no matter what, and over candidates who are far better than Trump (see DeSantis). Those are the real rubes.

He's not going to be found guilty on the federal charges because those trials are not going to happen before the election.

The state trials are political theater and will likely help him more than hurt him (as they have thus far), no matter how they turn out.

Your premise is that a conviction seals his fate, the "thing" that finally does him in.

The fact that we're arguing over who's to blame for a Biden victory, as if that's the worst thing imaginable, says everything about what's wrong with the GOP. Say what you will about the Dems and their evil ideas, but at least they believe in something. Republicans are so fearful and desperate that they'll vote for a literal fascist if that's what it takes to get power.

Short-sighted pragmatism is no real pragmatism at all. A Trump victory will be the end of the GOP's credibility as any sort of conservative party. It's all nazis vs. commies from here on out, just like old Europe once upon a time (and quite possibly again).

Open borders with millions of illegals entering our country annually demanding perpetual care.

Blundering out of Afghanistan leaving over 4 billion dollars worth of military equipment to the most vicious terrorist organization in the world

Directly provoking a proxy war with Russia using the lives of thousands of Ukrainian civilians as cannon fodder.

Openly converting the DOJ and FBI into the ' muscle ' of the Democratic Party.

Constantly advocating hatred and discrimination against people with lighter shades of skin color.

Spending trillions of dollars the country simply does not possess resulting in rampant inflation.

All while the Presidency and Senate are controlled by the Democrats.

Amazing that all those things are true and yet there is a large segment of conservatives in America who think our biggest issue is that we are not supporting ukriane or Israel enough in their wars.

Our country is being transformed in front of our eyes (into some very dark) and yet it's foreign wars that get them animated

I don't know what circles you run with, but I can honestly say that Ukraine and Israel do not come up in conversations at all. Border, Economy, Social Media issues, Generational differences, and sick of same old Political candidates all come up. Ukraine? Israel? Funding Foreign Policy? Can't name a conversation on that in a long time.

I just spent a week in Washington DC and neither came up. Hell, the election, Trump, Biden or any of what we discuss here didn't come up at the bars. What restaurants were good, how clean DC was around the Convention Center surprised us, flights, and work, Pretty normal life stuff, there is a fringe that is obsessed on both sides. Normal people don't think or talk about it much and I travel a fair amount.

I don't think there is this huge movement of unhappiness and appetite for Trump to take over. Now, he hits the economy and how he can make our life less expensive or young people buy homes? That he can win with. The other stuff is an anchor...

And yet Washington DC can always come up with $200 billion for Ukraine and $20 billion for Israel…..but no money for a border wall.

Maybe the Conservatives you run with are lying about their priorities? Or maybe they are just powerless in DC?

I am there for work, I have no idea of the people's political alliance, doesn't come up. I was around the Convention Center all week. It really was not at all like the news and the social media portray. Always surprises me. I have come to the conclusion that anyone pushing one side or the other has an agenda, usually there is a financial benefit somewhere in the equation.

Yet your issue is with the Republicans.

Perfect

Because Republicans are the only thing resembling a viable alternative. They go over a cliff, and it's nothing but a race to the bottom.

How do you think social media portrays DC?

To me it's always portrayed as a very rich very nice city…and with a populace that votes 95% for the Democratic Party

The race to the bottom is accelerating and irreversible.

The individuals who financially propelled an unknown Illinois politician into a senate seat and then immediately into the presidency had a vision.

The permanent alteration of the cultural fabricate of the United States.

Biden's puppet masters are following that same vision; only they are far more ruthless.

The 2024 election is already lost and with it the Supreme Court within a few short years.

After which freedom of speech and property rights will be severely curtailed.

The murder of the unborn will be expanded to grotesque proportions and the elderly will face increasing pressure towards 'assisted suicide'.

Truly saddens me to see what's coming. Maybe with global population increases such draconian measures were inevitable.

Out of curiosity, who do you think is retiring from the Supreme Court in a few short years? Maybe Justice Thomas, but that's by no means a given. I don't see Biden achieving a liberal majority in any event.

The better questions are

What can possibly alter the destructive trajectory to United States has been manipulated into ?

What is going to stop the millions of illegals flowing into the United States under still another Democratic administration?

How long will it be before these millions are granted the vote ?

How long before our debt forces the currency to be devalued ?
