I don't like TC's histrionics and his forced laugh bugs me.

Don't go out of my way to listen to the guy.

But in this particular interview his comments are correct.

Really? Not a sovereign country? Not a democracy? In the last 25 years, there have been more presidents elected in Ukraine than Russia, Belarus, and Kazahkstan combined. International monitors have deemed Ukraine elections among the freest and safest in the world.

A U.S. stooge? In 2014 and earlier, Ukraine's gov, intel, and business community all were heavily infiltrated by Russians. And . . . Ukraine was such a U.S. stooge that it elected pro-Russian majority governments. Yes, people rose up after VY did numerous things he expressly campaigned against - nixing the EU deal; imprisoning the opposition; media restrictions; expanded his security apparatus, and so on.

Even then, our EU allies agreed to the compromise deal, which we supported. Why would we do that if were intent on regime change? The absolute most that can be said is that the U.S. and our EU allies "supported" the cause of the protestors. But, that was no secret. Everyone was transparent about it.

Then, three more free and fair elections.

Tyrant/dictator? The Ukraine Constitution authorized martial law pursuant to the invasion. Ukraine would have been stupid not to institute martial law. How in the world do you hold legitimate elections, when half your country is gone or occupied? Who votes and how? Who pays, the U.S.? How do you ensure security and safety from Russian missiles?

Yes, there was an election during the civil war . . . a Union election. The Union was not occupied nor invaded en masse. WW2 was fought on other continents aside from Pearl Harbor at the start.

Setting all this aside, I'd love to see Tucker ask the question whether he thinks Zelensky would lose. He's enjoyed strong approval ratings. More importantly, there has been no material effort to oust him or even hold an election. I know it pisses some of you off, but Ukrainians support him. Polls have consistently shown 80% of Ukrainians want to postpone a vote until after war. Where I come from . . . abiding by the Constitution and listening to your people is a good thing.

As for the Russian-affiliated Church, it's been covered in detail since the start of the war. The UOC was long affiliated with the Russian church, led by Kirill, a close friend and former KGB colleague of Putin's. He has openly supported and helped with the Russian war effort. Even the Pope called Kirill Putin's altar boy.

There are recordings and a plethora of other evidence of Russian-affiliated priests in Ukraine colluding with Russia. Some of these priests have been involved in citizen/prisoner exchanges and were welcomed as heroes in Russia. Ukrainian priests and many of their membership oppose the Russian support and support some of the measures. The U.S. and other countries have never been kind to traitors. In fact, we kill them. Ukraine is going easy.

And Ukraine has been recognized for its religious freedom and has one of the highest % of Christians in the world. You want to talk restrictions on Christianity? Try being openly anything but Russian Orthodox in most of Russia.

If we were invaded by China, do you think we would take action against Chinese churches supporting the invasion and partnering with China? Yes, we would, and I would support it.

TC likes to say 'Putin has never called me racist." But, indeed he has, probably more than any other world leader. One of the key tenants of Russia propaganda about the U.S. is our "racist society" and "racial unrest." It's in Russian media every day.

TC was embarrassed by and taken advantage of by Putin. It was pathetic. He let Putin go unchallenged on countless lies and historical inaccuracies. I wish I know what happened to him.

In no way is Ukraine a legitimate democracy.

One would have to possess a broad sense of humor to even attempt to sell such a thing.

Just because a goofball like TC screams it…..does not invalidate the reality of Ukraine's current dictator.

Pure democracy and a democratically elected leader under an internationally recognized process in a free society. These are things that Russians can only dream of.

You have me confused with someone else. There's a 25 year track record on Putin that speaks for itself. People like him don't give interviews to Western journalists without knowing and planning the outcomes. Since the invasion of Ukraine he rarely gives interviews to even Moscow journalists and those only to approved government media.

I really don't think you have a grasp of just how many Russian or other nationality journalists have been killed, jailed, expelled, and/or forced to operate in exile under Putin. It only got worse once the "special military operation" began. Tucker was a tool, and a willing one at that.

Great news.

Quote:

It's been a tumultuous weekend for USAID the U.S. Agency for International Development. On Saturday sometime after 3 a.m., its website went down, according to the Internet Archive, a nonprofit group that tracks web pages.

Some browsers display the error message: "This site can't be reached. Check if there is a typo in www.usaid.gov."

The agency's account on X (formerly Twitter) has also been deleted.

Then on Sunday, Elon Musk wrote on X that USAID is a "criminal organization."

"It needs to die," he wrote. AP reported that workers at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) were denied access to confidential documents at USAID on Saturday and that the Trump Administration subsequently put on leave the two USAID security officials who refused to grant access.

The move appears amid questions about the fate of the aid agency, with concerns in the aid community that USAID may be folded into the State Department or eliminated altogether.

The deletion of the website and social media accounts alongside significant layoffs and the near-total suspension of work is an effort to dismantle USAID entirely, Jeremy Konyndyk told NPR. Konyndyk led disaster relief under Obama and the COVID and mpox responses under Biden at USAID. He's currently president of the aid group Refugees International.

"They're trying to eliminate the agency," Konyndyk said.

Sen. Chris Murphy said in a post on X on Saturday that the "total destruction" of USAID was "happening as we speak" and would be "cataclysmic."

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON, Feb 1 (Reuters) - The United States wants Ukraine to hold elections, potentially by the end of the year, especially if Kyiv can agree a truce with Russia in the coming months, President Donald Trump's top Ukraine official told Reuters.

Keith Kellogg, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, said in an interview that Ukrainian presidential and parliamentary elections, suspended during the war with Russia, "need to be done".

"Most democratic nations have elections in their time of war. I think it is important they do so," Kellogg said. "I think it is good for democracy. That's the beauty of a solid democracy, you have more than one person potentially running."

Trump officials are also debating whether to push for an initial ceasefire before trying to broker a more permanent deal, the two people familiar with the Trump administration discussions said. If presidential elections were to take place in Ukraine, the winner could be responsible for negotiating a longer-term pact with Moscow, the people said.

Yanukovych's son made billions selling coal from occupied Ukrainian territories, media reports

Story by Tim Zadorozhnyy
3h 2 min read

Oleksandr Yanukovych, the son of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, has made billions selling coal from Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories to Turkey, independent investigative outlet Important Stories reported on Feb. 4.

Viktor Yanukovych was Ukraine's pro-Kremlin president from 2010 to 2014 before fleeing to Russia with his family in the wake of the EuroMaidan Revolution. In October 2024, reports emerged that Yanukovych Jr. had been granted Russian citizenship.

The company behind the coal exports, Energoresurs, is registered in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, and has exported nearly half a million tons of coal abroad between 2023 and 2024. According to the investigation, the firm sources coal from suppliers in occupied Donbas and transports it to Turkey by rail and sea.

Journalists linked Energoresurs to Yanukovych Jr. through his coal holdings and mining enterprises. The company also received a loan from the Cypriot firm SL Holdings Limited, allegedly controlled by individuals close to the ex-president's son.

The coal is reportedly sold to an offshore company, Energy Union, registered in the British Virgin Islands. Energoresurs sells the coal at a significantly low price an average of $60 per ton in 2024 allowing the company to minimize export duties before reselling it at a higher price on international markets.

Yes, as in most nascent free countries and many longstanding free countries, our judicial system is the model, and we train lawyer, gov officials, and jurists all over the world. Heck, in the early 2000s, for a short time, I was on an ABA subcommittee on international reform.

The election that was overturned was undeniably fraudulent. Neutral observers from all over sang in unison.

VY and his party barely put up a fight.

uh, no. the taxpayers did not spend billions to foment instability in Ukraine. Russia did that. We did the exact opposite.

There are things to criticize about our Ukraine policy over the last 20 years. But it is silly on every level to suggest that our actions forced Russia into a just war.

And you are subverting democracy
