I have never voted for a Democrat. About as conservative as they come. I am also a huge Baylor fan and love having Baylor grads in powerful positions. But I want the highest elected officials to be people of character who obey the law. Especially when they are the chief law enforcement officer of the state. It is hard for me to understand how anyone can read in detail about Paxton's actions and think he should remain in office. Sometimes the guys on "your side" are turds. It is wise to flush them.

Just guessing here, but assume that the law's intent was that a holder of high state office could be impeached solely on actions, etc. done while in office. As Paxton has served numerous terms, he would be accountable to things he has done in office in any of his consecutive terms. If he had been out of office for considerable time, it would be an interesting argument. Otherwise the law would create effectively incumbent immunity to any all crimes committed prior to reelection. Yeah, yeah, yeah......appearance of impropriety, etc.....most of us here were all raised in mostly the same time and same way. But we aren't in Kansas anymore. We can see the lawfare coming at us from the left. The standard now for most Republicans is that our guys should not be removed until they are convicted of something (because that is clearly the standard for the other side).
Really, really dumb move, after having left so many other big issues unaddressed. If Abbott is smart, he will lash Phelan down for one special session after another, one issue, one at a time. M'fker fed Paxton to the Dem caucus....
Did not gain a single vote anywhere for this. Just divided up our side.
Only the Trump loyalists are all broken up about this. Everyone else doesn't want criminals in government.

Phelan has dumped a no-win situation in the laps of Abbott and particularly Patrick, who leads the Senate (where the trial will be held). They will anger parts of their own coalitions, no matter what they do. Not so much of a problem for Abbott, who is at the end of a long career, but a it is a hot-potato for Patrick, who aspires to higher office.BylrFan said:
