The changing land partition from the 20th Century is the result of the unrulable nature of the Palestinians, and the wars initiated by Islamic nations against Israel. The Palestinians allowed themselves to be proxies against a Jewish state, driven and manipulated by foreign actors to the detriment of their opportunities to have peace. They also have been rebellious against every entity that they've been associated with. Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and Israel all have had to "put down" Palestinian uprisings, and dealt with attacks and assassinations from them. Even the split of the politics between the PA and Hamas is just an extension of this long failed movement of Islamic Palestine. There is not and never has been an Islamic vision of Palestine in conjunction with Israel, and to pretend so is foolish.
It's frankly amazing the Israelis have been able to deal with this as long as they have. Between squishy Euro nations and latent anti-Semitism, and all out rejection and fighting (literal and figurative) of nation state status of Israel from the Islamic world, they've shown incredible restraint considering. To the Islamists, there is no Palestine with Israel, and that is at the heart of the Palestinian movement.
