The Brits a close second with all the lessons they learned in Northern Ireland. The Israeli's know what they are doing. It is still going to be a messy, expensive affair. I think the message that Israel is sending is that Urban warfare is more dangerous with the more people around. When they move in they aren't going to be shooting on site as I've only seen that kind of evil from Hamas and a few guys on this forum.
America has had much more recent urban warfare experience in Fallujah and other parts of Iraq, compared with the Northern Ireland warfare of the 1980s. You gotta realize just how old those veterans of the Northern Ireland campaigns are today. It's been around 40 years since the last door was kicked-in in Belfast. Sadly, those lessons learned are probably gone.
But back to your main point... yes, the Israelis are probably the most experienced at urban warfare. They have had to go door-to-door in the West Bank and Gaza before. As we learned in Iraq,... it is a high casualty type of warfare.
Won't argue. US got a lot of Urban experience in Iraq.
Was thinking of the similarity of long term generational conflict. I sort of equated Israel and N Ireland.
