However this phrase is a good example of why you should not take social media posts as accurate or undistorted information "62% of Somali men in Denmark are convicted of a violent crime by the age of 30" is not supported by publicly available research. The actual 62% statistic refers to a small cohort and a broad category of crimes (some violent, many non-violent).

The original summary explicitly lists crimes like theft, vandalism, property crimes, not solely violent crimes. So to restate "62% … violent crime" overstates the original claim.

According to a write-up referencing a report by think tank Unitos (based on data from the Danish Ministry of Justice), 222 out of 357 Somali men born between 1985 and 1987 ( 62 %) had "been convicted of a crime such as violence, vandalism, and theft" before the age of 30. The same report as summarized publicly mentions that these crimes include a mix of offenses: violence, property crime, theft, vandalism, etc. The 62% refers to "a crime" broadly, not necessarily specifically "violent crime."

[ I want to draw your attention to the excellent new Triggernometry podcast, in which historian Tom Holland, who has written deeply about both Christianity and Islam…

Holland explains that Christianity is the only religion that has a clear idea of the separation of the sacred and the secular. For Islam, for example, it's all the same thing. Muhammad was a lawgiver. From the transcript:

TOM HOLLAND: I think Islam is uniquely indigestible for a a secular mindset. And people don't want to admit that in a way because there's a default assumption that secular civilization can swallow anything up. There's a kind of arrogance there that secular civilization of the secular civilization of the West is such a broad tent that everyone can be brought into it.

But Islam is at least as sophisticated a civilization as as the civilization of the Christian West um and a very ancient one. And for most of its existence has been much much more powerful than the Christian world.
