Woah. Pretty big press conference with Bibi. Trump basically saying he's done with this 2-state failure of an experiment. He said its time to change course in Gaza and the USA will be involved. He is going to turn it into an international community and call it the Riviera of the Middle East where people can come from all over the world and live peacefully in a very nice community.
He's not wrong. The short lived Palestinian state has been a disaster. Time to try something else. 'Gaza is a hell-hole.'
riiigt. just pathetic. Let Isreal stand on their own. No more aid. I thought Trumpy Bear was a man of no wars. Who in the eff gives him the right to take over a piece of land in the Middle East. To use you RWNJs Merca first, why in the world would this be remotely palatable. Who in the hell does he think is going to develop the new Riviera? Trump and Jared. This takes grifting to a new level even for that POS. Truly unbelievable. Bibi is evil. Screw him as he is doing nothing but trying to save his own skin. Never, ever will happen and it shouldn't. Hello Hitler!
Tired of winning already?
nope. so. you think this a good idea?, TBL
"The TDSers takes him literally, but not seriously; his supporters take him seriously, but not literally."
tin-man..(TBL).you did not answer the question. do you think this is a good idea?
Trump is doing amazing work so far ….but this Gaza plan ( as initially described ) is a horrible idea for a myriad of reasons .
why do you insist on taking him literally?
does it matter if it will work or not, or ever happens, as long as it changes perceptions among the key players?
because I guess I have a tendency to take serious people at their word. My bad.
history has shown you how you should take him, if you choose not to then that is on you..
yeah, its on me that he is a pathological liar. yep. Oh, btw. Saudi told Trump to pound sand today. They and the other Arab countries will not pay a dime for this farce. Who's left to pay? Merca!
The Saudis put 2 billion in Jared's fund, so I wouldn't bet on it. They will not be seen as directly contributing to pace between the Muslim world and Israel, obviously.
yes, I'm very aware of Saudi and Jareds $2B to keep his building out of bankruptcy. You think young Jared would have gotten $2B if pa pa wasn't pres? Saudi , Jordon and UAE told Trump to eff off. Anything short of a 2 state solution is a non starter. Trump looks like such a fool.
Hard to have a two state solution, when the Palestinian public overwhelmingly rejects the idea, and Hamas - an Iranian proxy - has the stated goal of the destruction of Israel and continues to try and scuttle any peace between the two. And of course, the other countries in the region, while saying they want a two-state solution, don't want it in practice, as they realize any Palestinian state will be a terrorist regime and proxy for Iran. There would likely already be two states if not for Hamas. But it's never going to happen.
I would say the fool is the individual who continues to suggest the same failed solution over and over, expecting different results. How long have we discussed a two state solution now? 3-4 decades? Only an idiotic buffoon believes anything short of a two state solution is a non-starter. As long as Hamas remains in charge, the real non-starter is a Palestinian state. It's never gonna happen.
Hamas is not the powerhouse it was 2 years ago, and by the way they are terrorists. Of course many Palestinians in Gaza won't come out against Hamas and support a democratic Palestinian state, in public anyway.
There are many Israelis and Palestinians who think co-existence cannot happen peacefully without some form of a Palestinian state. They must have agency, and therefore responsibility. As long as terrorism or Israel is their overlord, there will be violence.
Your assertion that this thinking is idiotic buffoonery is idiotic buffoonery. Nana Nana boo-boo.
A few things:
1. The buffoonery is thinking that its buffoonery not to believe that a two state solution is the only solution. And in that regard, I have approximately 80 years of bloody history to back me up.
2. All of the ideas about peace always seem to involve a bunch of hypotheticals that never actually happen. For example, your suggestion that the Palestinians might actually give up terrorism as a means to accomplish their goals. Again, I have approximately 80 years of history on my side that says that's never going to happen.
I suppose we can continue to pretend that these things are possible or come up with an alternative. I choose the alternative as opposed to continuing to bang our head against the wall for another 50+ years.
The Palestinians rejected the 2 state solution early in the emergence of Israel, because it felt to the majority too much like giving into invaders.
On the contrary, they supported it until 10 or 15 years ago. The main problem now is that they don't trust the Israelis to recognize it.
Am I really wrong about that? Didn't Israel make a serious offer for a Palestinian state in the 50s, 60, 70s? Rejected every time? I'll have to Google it.
Edit: im right, and the last serious offer was in 2000 with Clinton. What was offered:
A Palestinian state on 94-96% of the West Bank with 1-3% in land swaps, and all of Gaza.
Palestinians would get sovereignty over the Temple Mount, with Israel having symbolic ownership over it, with shared sovereignty of excavations beneath it.
The Old City of Jerusalem and all of East Jerusalem would be divided based on residents' ethnicity: Jewish neighborhoods to Israel, Arab ones to a Palestinian state.
