This would be the biggest example of self-tackelation from the R's since they nominated that idiot, Kari Lake, in Arizona. Literally just begging to lose. Paxton is a scum-bag, Trump wannabe.

What kind of America First conservative would vote for John Cornyn? He has done more for Ukrainians and Israelis than he has for Texans.

Its time for a change. It would be nearly impossible for Paxton to be any worse.

paxton has some personal warts - we all do.

he's the right guy for that senate seat today.

Really? We all have cheated on our wives multiple times, got blackmailed for it, tried to rig the investigation into the blackmailer by appointing a 2nd year lawyer and removing the investigating unit at the AG's office, get caught, refuse to fess up and instead fire a bunch of guys who had quit their jobs to move to Texas to work for him and then take to the media to defame them as democrat plants (a thing he absolutely knew to be untrue), refuse to resign, only to get caught AGAIN in an affair? Those aren't warts.

fine - vote for the status quo. deny arby's. shoot javelina. jaywalk. eat tofu-que.

We're a long way from a politician being any sort of role model.

Are they willing to attack and kill the what needs to be attacked and killed?

That is the only measure now.

That is the only measure now.

Anyone that isn't likely to get elected won't have the opportunity to "kill" anything. And by choosing candidates using these kinds of purity tests, you are radically increasing the chances that the person ultimately elected will be committed to attacking and killing your policy preferences.

Yes.

I hire politicians to advance policy just like I hire a roofer to fix a roof, or a plumber to fix pipes.

I don't generally ask any of them questions beyond those related to whether they can get the job done.

I voted for Trump 3 times because unlike the other GOP primary candidates who ran against him, he expressed a willingness to collapse the temple of the Philistines.

As of right now, assuming the country has not collapsed by then, I plan on voting for Vance in 2028 as he is the one candidate in play right now who has shown some understanding of what time it is.

I've never seen anyone role model a country out of a bad economy.

Carter lowered the thermostat at the white house and wore sweaters to role model what he expected from citizens. He pretty much sucked as a president.

So your take on it is only Democrats can nominate and elect ideological purists who are going to go to war on their behalf.

Got it.

This is why the GOP sucks.

If by "IT" you mean the ability to fire up the national lefties so that think they have a shot at winning Texas and therefore dump piles of money into the race only to find out they didn't have a shot, yes, he might have that kind of "IT."

If you mean he might have a shot at defeating Paxton if the R's in Texas are Kari Lake level stupid and nominate him as the Senatorial nominee, then yes, he has that kind of "IT."

If you mean he looks almost normal compared to Jasmine Crockett, then yes, he has that kind of "IT" (along with almost every other non-institutionalized human).

Which ones of the above did you mean?

Nice straw-man.

My take is that both sides are currently in a "hold my beer" moment where their primary processes result in each party picking candidates who are progressively harder to elect in a general election. Whichever side figures out first that if they stop doing this they will win a lot of elections and thereby control policy will do just that. Paxton, Kari Lake, Dr. Oz., and almost everyone that ran as an R in Georgia in the last 6 years, are all examples of the "hold my beer" candidates. The result? Both Arizona and Georgia are represented in the US Senate by Democrats even though Republicans hold an advantage among the electorate of each of those states.

So the good, ideologically pure but tactically moronic Republican voters in Arizona and Georgia can sleep soundly at night wrapped up in the knowledge that they "fixed" the Republican parties of Arizona and Georgia and the nominees for the Senate, while the Dems get to make policy because they won. And Texas is headed in the exact same direction if they nominate Paxton.

Got that? That is reality.

From a discussion with a major donor this weekend - Hunt has a sound voting record but is "not good on policy," meaning "doesn't understand how policy actually works." Trump WH asked him not to enter the race.

Complicates my primary choices a bit.

Only if that's what you accept. They're depending on you looking the other way.

What I loved about Mamdani in New York is that New Yorkers said no to the idea that the corrupted politician is the better choice.
