The reaction of the LWNJ to the Omar attack is as hilarious and expected as one would have thought ... we do live in a Clown World.

Pretty was looking for confrontation with law enforcement. Bad plan. Particularly when armed.

I am particularly attuned to the "avoid the situation" aspect of this because it was my training...my world. Yes, I was sometimes armed. But I did not have any backup. On my own. No cavalry. Had to look out to potential 3rd, 4th, 5th order effects to avoid as many scenarios for confrontation as possible....a spidey-sense of what/where could generate problems I wouldn't be able to deal with......"what can happen bad here".....and take proactive steps to avoid. If I discharged my weapon, the least that would happen was a quick PNG, a quick trip home, and a new career path, no matter how justified that discharge might have been.

In that context, Pretty acted so profoundly stupidly. If you want to fight with cops, fer crissakes don't do it with a pistol on your belt. It's pretty close to "suicide by cop."

US review of Alex Pretti killing does not mention him brandishing firearm

Funny, official report that DHS does not have him brandishing the firearm... I would think the official inquiry would.

There are plenty of jurisdictions where cooperation with federal law enforcement is the norm. Somehow, they are able to do their jobs.

When the mayor refuses to cooperate, he doesn't just leave the "safe" illegal aliens alone, he leaves the "dangerous" ones free as well.

I think it has gotten less eloquent, to be sure. But the discourse itself is the same as it ever was.

Instead of writing letters to newspapers or pamphlets to be published under a pen name full of exaggerations or veiled threats, politicians run to twitter (X - whatever, its still twitter) to give the world their kneejerk reaction to every event or slight (real or perceived).

Not sure of the authenticity of this...some of the comments are claiming it's ai. The way that taillight gets damaged looks a little unusual.

That's what looks suspicious to me..a half ass kick to the back knocks out the entire tail light??

Plus part of the back car panel seemed to come apart too...not just the taillight housing

Yep. On every Ford truck I have owned/worked on (admittedly never one of the new model Expiditions shown in the video), the tail lights are always held in by 2 bolts + clips and remove to the rear (i.e., you have to apply a decent amount of force from the front to the back of the vehicle - AFTER removing the bolts - to ge the taillight assembly out of the body). The lenses are also pretty robust, and neither kick he lands seems hard enough to shatter it the way it did. I backed my college truck (06 F150) into a tree at my inlaws harder than that and it only scratched the taillight lens with a tiny crack in the corner where it flexed too much.

I had a 2003 Ford Expedition, someone struck the back of it once with a vehicle and didn't knock it off that badly.

The guy had a really weak kick. At my best I could kick a football almost 70 yards on the fly, I think it would have just broken my foot if I tried that stunt.

That wasn't a half-assed kick. And there's no way that's AI. If it is, it'd be the best dang AI seen to date. I mean, a literal game changer that is quite concerning.

That is no 'half assed kick'.

And since when does an 'innocent bystander' get to spit on any law enforcement officer ?

At least to me, that looks like a pretty powerful kick - however, that's why I really don't have any interest in debating the specifics of these things because folks will see what they want to see ... I would be a little surprised if a kick like that would knock out a taillight ...

Regardless, if it is true the guy had a broken rib from attacking law enforcement and quit is job as a male nurse to be a full time protester, then this video really does not change much.

It certainly looks like the guy, but with today's technology it could also be faked easily, if authentic it's him. And he is an ass.

Still, what he did Saturday did not merit being shot at 10 times and struck 5.

What he did in this video was much worse and they just let him walk away. He looks scrawnier in the kicking video.

50% accuracy means the 10 shots were needed.

Keep this video in mind the next time some halfwit tells you that ICE should de-escalate.

Seeing it reported as real.

Pretty obvious it's real. The real question is whether it's Pretti in that video. It sure looks like it. Of course, the refrain will be "So what? That doesn't mean he should have been shot." But if the officers already had been assaulted by Pretti before, then it DOES change the entire context of the shooting, significantly. It lowers the officers' threshold for considering Pretti a threat to their safety and puts them more on edge, especially since it was likely known from their previous encounter that he was carrying.
