Why is the bill so important to be done today when a week ago, the senate went home instead of working through the weekend?

Dems don't owe it to Republicans to vote like Republicans. If you need 60 votes Then put together a bill 60 Senators will support. That doesn't require either to give up principle. It requires negotiation.

If Dems controlled the Senate and Republicans controlled the House AND the Democrats produced this bill, would there be 13 Republican votes for it?

This is too broad IMO. Congress should determine how our money is spent and we should hold them accountable.

You mean like impeachment?

Dems wrote a good portion of the bill, then backed out of their agreement due to Nancy's threats.

That's not a valid reason.

Bad business practices didn't create this situation. It's not bailout, it's an amputation needed to keep from collapsing.

40% unemployment here we come unless the Fed somehow stabilizes this with buybacks and other measures.

Dems would like to destroy America and turn it into China. This was a treasonous act by Pelosi. Simple as that.

Dems didn't agree to anything...Why? Because the Senate Republicans did not include the Dems in the drafting of the bill. Once they prepared the bill, turned it over for review and scheduled a vote. That's not bipartisan.

This is incorrect framing. Dems gave full support for the bill but withdrew because 3 demands were not included:

1.) Collective bargaining powers for unions

2.) Increased fuel emission standards

3.) Expansion of wind and solar tax credits.

No one knows what was in the bill. We only know it didn't pass. The Post says the sticking point was $500B that was not targeted but left to Treasury's discretion.

That money should be earmarked. That's Congress's job.

Shameful.

Do these stupid folks not realize when you are forced to shelter in place the $$$$ have to come from somewhere.

This is what you gets when folks that don't live in the real world have the vote.
Your analysis is the opposite of reality.

Dems are making sure the money goes to people who actually need it.

The original Rep bill does little for those at the bottom end of the spectrum. Good for the middle class. But not good for the poor.

Also keep in mind that Pelosi was able to produce a strong bipartisan bill from the House for phase 2, but McConnell was either unwilling or unable to do the same in the Senate for phase 3.

Really! I'm middle or lower middle class. Two weeks without full pay and it collapses for the middle class and then we join the poor and have to be supported like they already have to be supported.

You are a partisan who does not delve into reality. Your long history of posts are a record of that. Does the poor need help, of course they do, and help for the poor was in the bill. But the true poor already gets help and their help will continue. Those that are about to lose a living wage, don't need to be added to the rolls of those that already need permanent help. You are short sighted and obviously living a priviledged life.

Several things here.

First, very odd that there is all this complaining about lack of bi-partisanship when McConnell intentionally excluded the Democrats from the drafting process.

Second, very odd that the complaint is the Democrats are holding up getting money to the people when the Democrats's complaint about the bull is that the money is not going to the people, it's going to companies.

Third, this will get done in the next day.

They helped write the bill, they got everything they wanted and when it came time to pass the bill, they voted against it...believing they could get more radical left wing goodies by holding the American people hostage.

You are covering for them. Stop it.

Nothing about Democrats behavior here is rational. It's dangerous. They're playing with peoples lives for cheap political scores. Period.

It's too late tomorrow: the markets will tank right off the bat.

BS- here is a link to Mitch McConnell explaining why he excluded Democrats from drafting the bill.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/03/19/politics/mcconnell-coronavirus-cnntv/index.html

And this bit about the markets tanking is laughable. The Dow lost 10,000 points in the last two weeks. It's the GOP who is playing politics here saying vote to give money to industry or else.

It is a lie that that bill puts industry before workers. It includes help for both.

Democrats ARE NOT THE MAJORITY. They behave this way in the house...I don't see your ass complaining.

The emergency economic aid proposal would include direct payments to Americans under a certain income threshold, $200 billion in loans to airlines and distressed industry sectors (for Americans Jobs )and $300 billion in forgivable bridge loans for small businesses.

All these are directed at maintaining jobs.

How dare

I am not complaining. I told you this deal will get done tomorrow. It will.

If you want a quick summary of the state of play over fiscal stimulus legislation, here it is: Republicans insist that we should fight a plague with trickle-down economics and crony capitalism. Democrats, for some reason, don't agree, and think we should focus on directly helping Americans in need.

And if legislation is stalled, as it appears to be as I write this (although things change fast when we're on Covid time), it's because Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, is holding needy Americans hostage in an attempt to blackmail Democrats into giving Donald Trump a $500 billion slush fund.

Dems do care about the country. The fact that you say this means you need to expand your world. Please, travel, and seek out experiences other than what you do. I'm sure you're happy being what you are, but you're very ignorant. The world is bigger than black v white, us v them. Of course politicians are a different matter, but they're all a load of hogwash. Mark Twain had a lot of good things to say about politicians.

Not to take myself too seriously, but it's important to say something against ignorance when we see it. Your post is horribly ignorant. All it takes is bettering yourself, before you have enough grace to peer into someone else's life. Live a day in anyone's shoes, and you'll understand their beliefs and actions much more. The world only goes around if there is enough grace in it. Your post is filled with judgement, but it's grace that you need.

McConnell wrote a bill Democrats won't support when he needed a bipartisan vote.

His bill has to pass Congress. Which has a Democratic majority. Pelosi's strategy--create her own stimulus bill--was a smart move to counter McConnell's bullying. The huffing and puffing about Pelosi and the Democrats holding up this bill when it contains a slush fund presided over by Steve Mnuchin and the Trump admin, and when Trump is talking about bailing out cruise lines and his own hotels, with no congressional oversight or reporting requirements, is embarrassing. And so are the people who buy the RW media's whinging that some senators and a majority of congress opposes a bailout that amounts to corporate welfare.
