Saturday, October 21st
Texas Tech 34 at BYU 33
This is a back and forth game in Provo that starts with two Aidan Robbins touchdowns to give BYU and early 17-3 lead in the 2nd quarter. The crowd is going crazy and the Red Raiders are back on its heels. This is the point in the season where we figure out if Texas Tech is a borderline top 25 team or extremely overhyped. Well they pass the test literally as Tyler Shogh throws four touchdowns to Drae McCray, Jerand Bradley, and Loic Founji. The Cougars secondary continues to hemorrhage yards and points making this a tough matchup for them. Kedon Slovis gets the ball back with two minutes left but is sacked on 4th down at midfield by Steve Linton. Massive road comeback for the Red Raiders.
Baylor 35 at Cincinnati 24
The Bears look to continue a strong start to the season as they travel to take on the Bearcats. This Baylor group handles the second road trip of the season well as they are able to mix in the run with a lot of passing. Shapen throws for nearly 300 yards thanks to explosive plays off play action. Ketron Jackson and Monaray Baldwin each get loose for 30+ yard scores which opens things up even more for the rushing attack that piles up 180 yards. Cincy hits a couple explosive plays and keeps this game close-ish but ultimately Baylor has too balanced of a performance.
Texas 41 at Houston 20
The Longhorns go into Houston and absolutely dominate from start to finish. The Cougars are held to under 100 yards rushing and Donovan Smith turns it over twice. All of that is a recipe for disaster when your defense isn’t good and the Texas offense is rolling. Quinn Ewers throws three scores in the first half to JT Sanders, Jordan Whittington, and Xavier Worthy then the run game gets going behind Jonathon Brooks and Jaydon Blue in the second half. Blow out city in front of a sold out crowd.
TCU 17 at Kansas State 36
The Horned Frogs arrive in Manhattan undefeated but they are facing the best team they have played so far this season and it shows. The Wildcats control the game up front as they hold TCU to under 100 yards rushing and force two Chandler Morris interceptions. Offensively, DJ Giddens and Treshaun Ward total 200 yards and three scores on the ground. Will Howard is efficient as he completes 80% of his passes and leads the offense to a 60% conversion rate on 3rd down. This is one of those perfect game type situations for Kansas State and a nightmare for TCU.
UCF 30 at Oklahoma 40
The Sooners offense continues to put up big numbers and today they get it done through the air. Dillon Gabriel throws for 315 yards and three scores as he links up with Jalil Farooq, Drake Stoops and Jayden Gibson. The Sooners offense keeps UCF from getting the game close but John Rhys Plumlee still puts on a show with over 300 yards of total offense. The Knights go 3-for-13 on 3rd down which ultimately costs them the chance to make this one interesting.
Oklahoma State 23 at West Virginia 27
Neal Brown’s team has continued to fight this season and it continues this week as the run game with Garrett Greene, CJ Donaldson, and the strong offensive line pace them. The Mountaineers total 225 yards on the ground and they dominate time of possession 38 minutes to 22 minutes. Oklahoma State stays in the game thanks to its defense forcing field goals in the red zone. Offensively though they struggle as Alan Bowman continues to throw interceptions especially on the road, he has two more in this one as the Morgantown environment gets to him.
