Baylor Should Support Connecticut's Big 12 Bid

The Big 12 is a basketball league. While it still wants to contend in football, the league is well-positioned to win national championships in basketball. It would take a minor miracle for the league to ever win a national title in football.

That backdrop sets the framework for the news: Brett Yormark desperately wants to add Connecticut to the league.

No way, no how will I support us bringing in a school that had to ask its teachers to take a cut in pay because it couldn't meet its budget. No reason to throw them a lifeline and force our students to fly back and forth to their home state just because they have been consistently propped up by ESPN.

If we want to add other schools, let's go after the best of the ACC.

This! Were already established as the best basketball conference. UConn doesn't change that. What it does do however is make the FB conference weaker. UConn has been absolutely pathetic on the gridiron the last decade.
Wait for the ACC to collapse and go get NC ST and a few others that significantly improve the B12 as a football conference

Adding UCONN isn't about football. If UCONN can see a path to improving much like Kansas has done over the last 5+ years, then the football option can be additive.

UCONN is for basketball with a football option. Eventually the NCAA is going to fold and the top major conferences will sweep up the annual tourney for basketball that will be just for the major conferences. The TV rights for the tourney alone are worth billions. And if the Big 12 can be calculating enough, the lion share of that pie can come their way.

Football is all about the money moving forward. Baylor can not compete with big state schools on paying 60 football players but it can compete with paying 8-9 basketball players.

Compete the best we can in football. Dominate basketball. I don't see another way to stay nationally relevant in the buy wins era.

If adding UConn helps with that for our conference then add them. The new way requires new thinking.

I defer to BY on this one. This may be a play for the long game. I have read that he would like to separate basketball from the football media package. UConn certainly helps that. Maybe ESPN will pay us more to include their pet in a P4 conference. BY has a lot more info than I do.

Coach Drew wants them in. That's all I need to know. Let them in.

Guys, it's over for football if you aren't B1G or SEC. We can continue this charade as long as we want, but ultimately everyone, including us, will be 2nd tier college football.

"Reverse Uno" these guys by cornering the entirety of big boy college basketball. Duke and UNC will be scrambling to join when the ACC collapses. There is massive room for growth in college basketball, and BY knows this..

I say no unless it is at a reduced price for ever. Football is the money sport and they suck.

We're 0-2 against them all time with both losses when we had the best football coach we've had in our history. Save the smack talk for teams who we actually have a winning record against.
