Solid active defense tonight. Washington missed a ton of bunnies but they were contested .

I complained about the FT percentage of all these new players in the off-season. Too many 1 out of 2's down the stretch that will cost us in conference is the only nitpick I have .

I thought we did a good job of contesting almost everything tonight. Washington plays in the paint, so they were taking a lot of short shots, but we kept a body between them and the basket for the most part and made most of their shots difficult. They hit some tough ones early, but those shots stopped falling as their legs got heavier late.

All in all, I really liked what I saw on the defensive end. That sequence after they cut the lead to five was awesome.

For the lazy, what's his injury?

Ashley posted on here and said it was a wrist injury related to an ATV accident during the summer.
Some rumblings about there being nerve damage, and that it might keep him out all year. At minimum, it sounds like he's out until around conference play.

Hopefully we can at least get Soyoye back at some point. We're going to need a second true big.

This sounds like how CSD describes all Baylor injuries

I like what I see so far. That was great D when we needed it most.

You can tell Drew likes Mos. Or he would have gotten the "game to game" response.

Scott Drew put on one of the greatest transfer portal performances ever. Keep in mind missing 2 rotation players

Solid win on a night when the overall shooting wasn't what it can be but our D actually made a difference. Plus we survived a lot of second half minutes without arguably our best player on the floor (Carr) due to foul trouble.

I liked our defensive improvement. Big concern we were struggling to get rebounds. Also, Washington is going to struggle to win games in the Big 10 if they shoot as poorly as they did tonight. Happy for the win but we will know more after St. John game.

Not sure how long Sprinkle has been at Washington, but I am pretty sure he was with Utah State the last couple of years when they have been a feisty team to deal with in March. Wish him nothing but the best, it seems like a good Washington team compared to what they have had lately

CBS 2026 Mock Draft

15. Tounde Yessoufou | Baylor | SF | 6-5 | 215 | Fr
A top-15 prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, Yessoufou finished as the leading scorer in California high school basketball history while evolving from an undersized combo forward to a legit power wing. While there are still questions about his perimeter skill and decision-making, he's long, strong and high-motor, with a chance to put up big numbers right away at Baylor. Current pick: Toronto Raptors

Wonder if Carr will move up much? He seems to have all the typical measurables for current NBA. His shot form looks pretty good to me. Going to be hard to block his three with how high he elevates.

I just know he looked good last night despite some rather obvious calls on him

Carr will keep rising in mocks, that elite quickness combined with his length is ideal for an NBA wing. Will be a top 15 pick before it's said and done. Needs to improve turnovers has some lazy passes and is still learning angles when it comes to entry passes. On this teams needs to play some PG and has to improve turnovers.

I will get roasted for this but I don't think Yessafou is a great NBA prospect and will drop in mocks. Unlike VJ not a great prospect in the modern NBA. Geat physical build but no PG skills and sketchy perimeter shot. Good but not great NBA athleticism.I don't like how he forces too many bad and off balanced shots from the perimeter. Dime a dozen bench player at the NBA level unless he finds a consistent perimeter jumper and play-making skills.

We are blessed to have Powell he is the blue collar big we've been missing the past several seasons.

Yessafou needs a little more seasoning under Coach Drew, guessing three more seasons would be just about right

This is his second year there. There's been some buzz about UW coming into this season because they landed such a great portal class. Not to mention Steinbach is tough to handle in the blocks, despite being a Freshman.

We caught a big break by Desmond Claude being out with an injury. He's a guy who will be a candidate to be their leading scorer this year. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they make it to the dance. This was a nice win that will only serve to build confidence.

Claude's their best player and I'm not sure it's close. The Washington win will look pretty darn good at seasons end.

I'm not sure Claude changes that game a ton because he doesn't provide the one thing they needed to beat us last night, which is a reliable outside shot.

I like that Washington team, but they're going to have prove they can shoot the 3 at at least a passable level to be a contender in Big Ten play and the tournament.

I agree, though, that that will be a nice win for us come tournament time. Washington's got a lot of guys who can get the ball into the paint and finish. Steinbach is a star in the making in the post, and Zoom Diallo is a lot of fun to watch.

This program needs to catch a break and hope he stays early 2nd to late first projection and returns next year. This year, there is a chance of that happening bc this freshman class is incredibly strong.

His measurables and athleticism are pro level. If he hits 3s at a consistent clip and shows ball skills it will be hard to keep him out.

And for Tounde (not your Q), I thought what many of you are posting early on. I then saw his physicality against a very strong group of freshmen over the last 6 months and changed my view a bit. Definitely more volatility with his spot v VJ last year. It could go a bunch of ways with him

He does, but it won't happen. Guys who are pegged one and done in mocks are as good as gone before they step foot on campus.

I don't ever expect five-star freshmen to be on campus for more than a year -- even those like Missi, who are considered raw and expected to be around a little longer.

Like you said, as soon as guys are showing up on mock drafts, they're as good as gone. And the course has been charted for most of those guys before they've played a second of college basketball.

If you listen to Drew, Izzo, Pope, Oats, Scheyer and Pitino on podcasts or interviews, they all make it fairly clear they consider almost everyone a 1 and done now, whether it's a guy headed to the NBA or a guy who may seek greener monetary pastures somewhere else. I think coaches have made the adjustment to the 1 and done atmosphere and now fans will need to do the same thing (unless you're the fan of a team who has endless funds). This is no longer 2020 basketball and earlier when you have a roster that largely stays together every year. You may be able to keep a core 2-3 players but the rest will be up for grabs. UH has been an exception to this point, but keep an eye on them this year after stocking a roster for the first time with primarily highly rated recruits.

UH isn't even the only exception in the B12. I agree that keeping 5 plus guys nowadays is incredibly difficult. But keeping 3 core guys to build around is absolutely possible. The B12 has a few examples of that. I could probably find a boatload more across the country if I cared to look.

Not sure what you're debating. UH was one who kept almost the entire team intact the past few years, which was the outlier. I said you would be able to keep a core 2-3 guys, and that's who most school's existing budget will hit. The rest will search for better deals elsewhere.

ISU, AZ have both kept their cores together as well. Could throw BYU in but I front because they have what feels like a billion $$ Nil fund

2024-25 Arizona Top 5 leading scorers

Caleb Love (17.2 points) - eligibility expired
Jaden Bradley (12.1 points) - returned
KJ Lewis (10.8 points) - TRANSFERRED to Georgetown
Henri Veesar (9.4 points) - TRANSFERRED to UNC
Trey Townsend (8.2 points) - eligibility expired

They were able to keep Awaka and Dell'Orso (the next 2) because they were already paying them a lot more money than anyone was gonna pay for 2 guys who barely averaged 6 or 7 a game.

BYU, as you said, has enough to pay the 13th player on the roster enough to keep him if they want.

Iowa State is the outlier.
IowaBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Awaka and Dell'Orso make my argument though. They were guys who AZ managed to keep (no idea what they're getting paid) who took the expected next step. Or at least appears their making the next step.
I'm not arguing against your larger point. I'm saying roster retention is possible. Obviously you aren't keeping an entire roster in 2025. But keeping a decent core year to year should be doable. And doing so is probably the secret sauce to getting back to the 2nd weekend in March. Drew's recruiting seems to suggest that's his hope as well. Granted $$ talks and so guys are going to develop and leave early than anticipated.
