Good call out and I'm sure you could see it better in person. Obi (Rataj too) struggle against length and athletisim.

We might have found the one mountain west guy in the last 2 years that doesn't translate to the highest levels of comp. I'm sure he'll have some breakout games but very concerned about consistency.

When you get 3rd and 4th year guys as skilled and polished as Obi and Rataj, you realize there's a reason they are still around playing college basketball. Their limited athletic upside really shows up against the longer and more athletic teams.

If we had made our free throws and not used timeouts early, we coulda ... but this is far from a bad team.

Not sure what "eye test" you are using, for my part I see them learning and staying tough.



Tough? They lost to Ole Miss, UNLV, Wake, and are nearly beaten by San Fran. They are a first for out type tournament team hat like us.

How many top 25 teams have we played?

A road game at Memphis was a solid test for us. Sad for you if you cannot grasp that.

Memphis isn't good this year. They weren't impressive leading up to today. And they weren't impressive live. That's a bad loss however you spin it by the Bears today. That's Pennys worst team in his Memphis tenure

Well, at least one interesting nugget comes from this:

--Baylor falls from #67 NET to #76 NET, which costs Memphis a Quad 2 win (for now) since we're not in the Top 75.

--Memphis' victory vaults it from #138 NET to #129 NET, which puts it inside the Top 135 and makes our loss a Quad 2 loss (for now) instead of Quad 3 loss.

Quad 1 wins and Quad 3/4 losses are two of the most heavily weighed NET evaluative tools used by the committee in deciding at-large bids.

Given the situation with Bodo looking more and more like he either isn't going to play this season or he's going to at best be a minor contributor (due to being rusty when he does play) redshirting Soyoye appears to me to be a luxury we can't afford. If he's truly so raw or unprepared to play this season that he can't at least be another big body to contribute a few minutes of clogging the lane on D and maybe grabbing a couple of rebounds, then I don't understand why we recruited him and why we're paying him in the first place.

I think the more concerning trend is that when Dan Skillings struggles, we lose. He's played two bad games all year and we've lost both of them -- basically trailing the entire way.

With his inconsistency issues over the years, that doesn't bode well for us IMO.

But in fairness to Skillings (and Agbim ... and Rataj), everyone (except Yessefou and maybe Powell) played poorly against Memphis. That was just a ****ty game for us all around.

Agree on Skillings. His success comes from playing on that "just on the edge of a turnover" speed every time he touches the ball. When he's on, he can score. But, when he's off, he's a turnover/bad shot machine.
Carr also went MIA for the first time this season in the 2nd half against Memphis.

I think it's way too early to tell with this team. The B12 is super strong at the top - everyone else will be fighting it out for NCAA entrance. Iowa State, Houston, Zona, Tech, Kansas and BYU are sure locks for the tourney. That probably leaves 3 spots for the rest of the conference.

Can Baylor grab one of those spots?
