Williams came to play today. We need him to have a big game because when he struggles to score, our offense stagnates badly.

When was the last time Skillings did much of anything?

How do we always end up in a defensive position where our shortest guy, Williams, is left trying to guard the tallest player on the opponent?

I still like Powell a lot. He's a role player, but he's one of the few guys we added this cycle capable of consistently handling his role.

In the past, it was because we switched everything. But we don't do that anymore.

Unfortunately, it's been a steady decline. Every guard group has gotten worse since that team.

Last year's guards were bad, too.

Whatever we paid them, he and Williams are the two guys out of the portal who have produced in line with or even more than expectations.

Agree, the effort is there, but thus far he's proven to be consistently overmatched anytime we've played a top half of the big 12 team (which of course doesn't include today).

Williams has actually handled himself pretty well in those spots this season. Surprisingly so.

But in fairness he was brought here to be a backup 10-12 minute a game guy off the bench. He's been forced into a 20-25 minute a game guy against the league's best and his skill level isn't that high even though the effort is.

Skillings has been pretty awful since Big 12 play started, too. That guy has played in this league. He shouldn't look this bad.

This team and defense are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I've seen better defensive efforts in the nba during the regular season!

Do we even practice basic defensive fundamentals?

He of course had the reputation of being an on and off guy at Cincy, but at least he did have some good to great B12 games there. So far in big 12 play here he's been a complete non-factor.

They weren't nearly good enough to cover for their senior teammates, who were bad.

And Wright wasn't very good the second half of last year either. He was a complete non-factor down the stretch.

Edgecombe was the only guard we had that could be counted on the second half of the season.

Yeah Wright was straight bad for long stretches last year. Don't get me wrong he's a darn good PG. he was also horrendous defensively, still is

I think the skill of the new age coaching staffs is gonna be who has the ability to identify the mid-major players and/or former role players of P5 schools in the portal who can truly play and produce at the elite level of P5. If not, then you just have a mid-major team trying to compete in P5 conference that has some elite talent (such as Arizona, Tech, Houston, Iowa St, etc.) and you're gonna be in the bottom half of your P5 conference

Unless you can develop and maintain a nucleus, like some of those I mentioned above have.
