We're talking about Jerry here. What do you really expect with him as the GM?
Wichitabear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Nothing! I wish we would put Troy Aikman in as our GM
Hotsauce
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Aikman straight up said that he had ZERO interest in ever becoming the Cowboys GM because of all the organizational problems.

Who could blame him?

If it's true that Jerry had a hard time letting Garrett go because he respects him and considers him family...I'd like to point out that he kicked Landry's azz to the curb without batting an eye back in '89! LOL

My guess would be that its Urban Meyer.

Only if you want to rewrite history.

Bum Bright, Tex Schram and Gil Brandt all wanted him gone in in 1986. Landry agreed to retire at the end of the 86 season and they brought Paul Hackett in. Landry lied to them and kept coaching.

He said he would retire in 87 again, and once again it didnt happen. Tex refused to fire him as they had been friends for years.

When Bum Bright had to sell the club due to financial difficulties, his one stipulation was that Landry must be fired and could not be the coach. Jones took the job on himself and flew down to the golf course where Landry had disappeared to to tell him.

This is the actual history, not the revised one

So, now you know

The rest of the story

So you don't think Landry deserved a better farewell? Interesting considering he WAS the Dallas Cowboys.

Kinda difficult to do when he didn't want to retire and allow for a ceremonial departure.

Well he's got 3 rings and he hired both coaches that got those so I guess I'm hopeful. Riley isn't an nfl coach.

So, now you know

Yep, Bright personally disliked Landry and how he was deemed untouchable. He even accepted a lower offer from Jones in order to ensure Landry was dismissed.

A group of Japanese investors (a cliche of the 1980s) were interested in purchasing the Cowboys, I think they offered ten million more than Jones ultimately bought the team for.

$140 million was the price Jones paid, 30 years later his investment is worth more than $5 billion.

It's pretty common knowledge that the game had passed Landry by and he had worn out his welcome, but my earlier point still stands.

It was a no-brainer to immediately fire Garrett (it was a no-brainer 2 years ago as well). His apparent internal struggle w/ that decision speaks volumes to the organizational problems that will continue to prevent on-field success.

Perhaps he had to get some **** in line before he let him loose.

McDaniels will want his own front office guy like a Scott Pelioli so that is a no go in Dallas as he isn't Bill Parcells.

I would be there helping him under and overinflate the damn footballs, smear a little stickem on them when we had the ball and a little KY on the when the other guys did, put some superglue in the refs whistles, send EMPs out whenever the other coaches Red Flag comes out so they couldnt see the replay. You name it, Bearforce and I will be fixing the game! (had to include him, its his KY...)
Wichitabear

Sounds just like you two! Lolol. You're just putting our Cowboys best interest at heart. I wonder what he's going to say about that KY?
