My 2017 Draft class review:
First, it will be hard to emulate last year's class. Two Rookie of the Year/NFL Player of the Year types. And several other holes filled. Spectacular class. With that said, in this one, we needed defense, especially DBs. Looks like we got three;
Round 1, No. 28 Overall
Taco Charlton - Defensive End - Michigan
It could be argued that Taco is a better LDE than what we needed which was a speed rushing RDE. But those guys went off the board ahead of us. If we lose Irving or DLaw in FA, then he could also work into the interior in 2018 at 6'6, 275. He is playing better - got his second sack of the season. (Also, keep in mind Jerry has kept in touch with Randy Gregory. If he comes back next season, he could step right into the RDE mix. Huge talent)
Round 2, No. 60 Overall
Chidobe Awuzie - Cornerback - Colorado
I have high hopes for this kid. Looked great against the skins. Lets see how he does against Eli and Odell
Round 3, No. 92 Overall
Jourdan Lewis - Cornerback - Michigan
Arguably our best draft pick so far. He and Awuzie could be our two starting CBs for a while
Round 4, No. 133 Overall
Ryan Switzer - Wide Receiver - North Carolina
FINALLY! After some early season idiocy, this kid is taking off. Will be interesting to see if he gets some more work at WR. 83 yd TD return, a 66 yarder and a 31. Theres some potential there
Round 6, No. 191 Overall
Xavier Woods - Safety - Louisiana Tech
Easily our best value in the draft. We gave up a 2018 5th to move up and get him. Great hitter. Not quite as good in coverage. Give him an off season and see how he comes back next year. Worked in the slot in subpackages against the Redskins, a role that third-round pick Jourdan Lewis has also held this year. Gives Lewis some rest
Round 6, No. 216 Overall
Marquez White - Cornerback - Florida State
On our Practice Squad. TBD
Round 7, No. 228 Overall
Joey Ivie - Defensive Tackle - Florida
Cut early. You never know about 7th rounders
Round 7, No. 239 Overall
Noah Brown - Wide Receiver - Ohio State
He had a couple of moments. They really like him as a blocker. Wondering if they would develop him as HBack/backup TE? He's pretty good size for a WR at 6'2, 225. Lots of work on special teams
Round 7, No. 248 Overall
Jordan Carrell - Defensive Tackle - Colorado
Also cut early. It was a roll of the dice
