NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal reports Cowboys OC Scott Linehan "talked up" third-round rookie Michael Gallup's red zone ability on Thursday.
Per Rosenthal, Linehan also said he anticipated Gallup's catch radius "replacing some of what the team lost in the offseason." With Dez Bryant and Jason Witten gone, the Cowboys need someone to step up near the goal line. An excellent route runner with plus short-area quicks, Gallup scored 21 touchdowns in two years at Colorado State. He remains a rookie sleeper to watch.

Cowboys slot WR Cole Beasley will have an "expanded route tree" in 2018.
"Anytime you get to do something different and show something else that may have been hidden is definitely a new challenge and it's more fun," Beasley said Thursday. "I'm excited just to do it." Beasley could apparently kick out more with Allen Hurns manning the inside. Although "versatility" is a nice way of putting it, it speaks to how direly thin the Cowboys' receiver corps is.

NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal reports Tavon Austin was frequently lined up "out wide" on the first day of Cowboys training camp.
The Cowboys have talked up using "web back" Austin all over the formation. That apparently includes the outside for a team with one of the league's sorriest receiver corps. If Austin is going to come into fantasy value this season, it will be through blunt force usage, and likely limited to PPR formats.

Cowboys placed S Kavon Frazier on the active/NFI list.
Frazier is reportedly being evaluated for a blood clotting issue. He can come off the list at any time during training camp, but he will miss at least six games if he remains on the NFI into the regular season.
