His only coaching jobs were arguably 2 of the worst situations you could ask for when he took them over.

I don't think I need to explain where Temple football was..a program that has been kicked out of Big East for being non competitive. In 2 years he had them winning 10 games and.in the AAC championship.

And you know how toxic our situation was. What the hell do you think his record should be? People have taken over better situations than him and have worse records.

That is what he wants. There is no downside to Temple or Baylor, or Nebraska at this point. Any improvements are seem as him. That is the game plan.

I have the same issue with Rhule that I gave at Urban Meyer. They approach the game like a hedge fund. They look for rosters ready to take off, swoop in put 1 to 3 years in and sell. Nebraska is going to win in the next 3 years whether it is Rhule or someone else. There is enough on the roster and the schedule works. BU and Temple were similar. Not much different than Urban with BG, Utah, UF, OSU. Then they take credit for what others started.

Very shrewd, smart and leaves me with a bad taste. Probably jealous because they have balls to actually do it.

I'm gonna have to stop you right there. Urban Meyer is a scummy dude. CMR is simply mega hedge fund manager. Love him or hate him, he gets actual returns. The best no? The worst no? Urban is the hedge fund manager straight up breaking the law, committing insider trading, while his staff rails lines a substance that looks like sugar.

I won't disagree. I was just comparing that they are very picky of their landing spots, always looking for the next landing spot and where they go usually has no downside and a roster that is ready to compete.

As I said, it is probably more of a jealousy thing, rubs me the wrong way. I am of the Barry Alverez school, go, build and stay. Become part of the Community if you are a College Coach/employee. Mercenary, go pro.

Is that what qualifies a coach as great?

It's one of the things that can qualify a guy as a great coach.

And which wing of a HoF would one go to injorder to see these coaches?

He's a mercenary like every coach. It is funny that he's not using all that Christian-ish language about God calling him to be at Nebraska like he did here. He will always feel God's calling to the intersection of 'most prestigious job' and 'biggest paycheck'. That said, he is a great coach especially for the college level
The 'calling' to a better paying job strategy has worked well for Baptist preachers too.

And I am part of the group of Baylor fans that think the Rule tenure was one of the worst ever. Why?

He used us. Period.

He thought he could come in here and have a horrible first year, then win and then get a much better gig. And it worked for him. He didn't want to be here. Never bought in to Baylor and what we try to represent.

And I am also part of the group that thinks he purposely lost in his first year to enhance his resume. The lost to Liberty was embarrassing and should have never happened.

And that is my opinion....and I am sticking to it.

Count me in the group with you. Losses to Liberty, UTSA. Drummed by Duke. We not only loss, we looked like **** losing and he looked like he saw a Ghost each week on the sideline. Will be interesting to see how long Nebraska puts up with the trust the process message. Or maybe he stopped using that slogan once the Carolina fans told him to shove it

This board never cease to amaze me with bad bad takes. Teaff had great teams lose to San Jose St and Rice.

The fact we lost to Liberty Duke and UTSA validates we just weren't very good. This conspiracy theory that we had a championship level roster yet Rhule threw the season is maddening.

You have your opinion and we have ours. That same team had just won a bowl game. So miss me with all the 1-11 bull***** He choked games and yall crowned his ass the next great coach after turning around a trainwreck he created.

All this hype about what he did at Temple. Temple (although a perennial doormat) was winning games before he took over.

Temple 2009 team - 9-4
2010 team 8-5 (Al golden goes to Miami)
2011 team 9-4
2012 team 4-7 (first year back in the Big East)
Matt Rhule takes over 2013. Goes 2-10 with loss to Fordham, Idaho and Rutgers. I called it when he got the job her. He is good at throwing the 1st year to support his "he turned the program around" theory

I don't blame Matt Rhule for playing the game. He had a good season that was fun. He is however a fraud and he got really lucky here in year 3 (Tech game fumble not called for one). I think he tanked year one either on purpose or due to complete incompetence.

Where in a hall of fame would one go to in order to see a list of coaches that were great but had .500 records because of "toxic situations"

Some other poster said it but this is the first time I've seen it. There really is some hate towards Rhule on here. Wow.

Rhule doesn't come across as two faced at all. None of his players said that. In fact, they said the opposite - that he was a straight shooter.
