Maybe Aranda was a bad hire. The thing is, it is hard not to blame the impacts of the NIL and portal transition. We would not have competed no matter who was coaching.

We will see what happens now that we pay players. We won't ever compete with the large, blue blood schools, but maybe we can with the Big-12. We are behind other schools in $$.

Aranda may not get us there. But I have to admit, he came in at the wrong place and time to succeed. I am not sure he ever had a chance.

All this is true but I think we are only behind in NIL because everyone else started 2 years ago and we started 8 months ago.

I remember for the longest time we just didn't get that facilities were important and wanted our coaches to do what everyone else was doing but they were doing it with fancy facilities. It lead to the dark ages. We at least caught on fairly quickly this time with NIL. I wouldn't say we can't compete with the programs of the Big 2. Because once we got our act together with coaching budgets and facilities, we in fact did. But we fell behind again when NIL came along and we didn't immediately understand that we have to do it as well to stay on top.

Baylor has always been "a day late and dollar short". Thus why, historically, football has been abysmal forever with exception of our "ten minutes of fame" covering 60-70 years.

I'm not sure how you define abysmal but we were abysmal for Beall's 3 years, Roberts' 2, Steele's 4. The rest of our history has been overall mediocre. But yes Baylor historically is behind the trends on committing what is necessary.

Why do some of you think we need 75 different threads about the same thing. Everyone knows what you think. Give it a rest.

Ok....I get we were behind on NIL, but who's fault was that? It seems to come back to Aranda imo. Drew seemed to handle NIL much better.

It's a lot easier to find and spread NIL$ among 5-8 players vs. 50+ . Having a natty under your belt and likely HOF coach doesn't hurt either.

It is also clear the administration was not supporting NIL for football other than what would be minimal amounts for a football program ( but an amount that might be a treasure chest for a hoops program) until about January. Money suddenly started flowing in at that time. Money didnt just start flowing in as a coincidence.

Maybe, just maybe, blaming NIL is the excuse CDA is giving. And sure while I suspect that we were likely behind on NIL, I actually don't know that we were "behind" for our conference. Our conference outside of OUT are all middling programs. I actually think it's just CDA. He wasn't a good headcoach and he buried our program. It's still not obvious he's any good at headcoaching. But it sure seems like being on the hotseat caused him to grow up real fast this offseason and get help from others and start looking to up our game on NIL.

Let's stop blaming NIL, our conference mates were weak last year, and we were one of the worst. That's not due mainly to NIL, that's due mainly to CDA. Sure NIL can help compensate for a lack of good leadership by buying better players, but being real, just look at our league last year, we should be embarrassed to be at the bottom of it.

Neither of us are blaming Baylor's poor NIL play. Albeit obvious, it is all actually focused directly on Aranda and Rhoades. Aranda is a well below average (argumentally poor) D-I P5 head of a football program, and Baylor will continue to be hamstrung in its abilities to try to build back anywhere close to a nationally rated program until both he and Rhoades (who made all the terrible hiring and NIL decisions) are replaced.

Reality is really rough sometimes for hardened fans like us.............

The Big12 had one of the four playoff teams. The OL still sucks with any coach.

At this level, you hire proven head coaches, you don't promote coordinators to see if it works.

I think the more pertinent question is not about Aranda, but will Linda and Mack make the right call to fire him, and replace him with someone with vision and competence.

Everyone here should worry about the 6 win season. With it they can sell Aranda to donors for another season. Linda and her office seem to have an affinity for Aranda.

Linda needs to go as well. This is the same staff that spent $750K on Finn....
