Maybe Aranda was a bad hire. The thing is, it is hard not to blame the impacts of the NIL and portal transition. We would not have competed no matter who was coaching.
We will see what happens now that we pay players. We won't ever compete with the large, blue blood schools, but maybe we can with the Big-12. We are behind other schools in $$.
Aranda may not get us there. But I have to admit, he came in at the wrong place and time to succeed. I am not sure he ever had a chance.
All this is true but I think we are only behind in NIL because everyone else started 2 years ago and we started 8 months ago.
I remember for the longest time we just didn't get that facilities were important and wanted our coaches to do what everyone else was doing but they were doing it with fancy facilities. It lead to the dark ages. We at least caught on fairly quickly this time with NIL. I wouldn't say we can't compete with the programs of the Big 2. Because once we got our act together with coaching budgets and facilities, we in fact did. But we fell behind again when NIL came along and we didn't immediately understand that we have to do it as well to stay on top.
