Just a thread to keep an eye on the standings and the race to the conference Title game here in the back half of the season.

We aren't going to be in the race this year...but it's nice to see that we've gone from the cellar at 0-3 to middle of the pack.

At this point half of the conference is still in the race with 8 teams having 2 or fewer losses.

BYU obviously controls their fate and has remaining games with @Utah, KU, @ASU, UH.

With ISU and Colo both having one loss if they both win out it would go to tie breakers....unless of course BYU were to trip and lose 2 of their last 4 games and ISU and Colo would advance in that scenario.

ISU remaining games @KU, Cincy, @Utah, KSU.

Colo remaining games @TT, Utah, @KU, OSU.

Then there are the scenarios where the 5 teams with 2 losses could get in...but that's too much to look at right now.

I'm sure a lot of this will naturally get sorted in the next few weeks… But this is kind of mind blowing

This one will have implications for both teams trying to get there.

Tech would put itself in pretty good shape among the 2 loss teams with a win here because they would own tiebreakers over Colo, Cincy, and Iowa St. They play WVU in their last game and would have the chance to knock 2 loss WVU out.

Tech is like: "Cool we have a shot at the Big 12 Championship Game, just as long as we don't have to play Baylor again in it."

6-6 "middle of the pack" still should be considered a failure, and should not be considered success by fans by any stretch, for a $4M / year head coach in his 5th season.

.419 Conference record
.491 Overall record

Baylor can find head coaches at half the salary that could produce that.

Dave must still go

We should avg 9 or more wins a season. At this point we need at least 7 wins. We are a 6 & 3 team with a 5 & 4 record. Sicem

Can you imagine how differently we'd feel right now if we had won the Utah and Colorado games, which were both totally winnable. Ugh!!!

It is nice to hear from fans who are well aware that a 3 game win streak doesn't really mean much in the whole scheme. I don't really like Aranda either, but I will say that if he runs the table for the rest of the year, I will be off the "Fire Aranda" wagon. But for me, he's not out of the woods yet.

It takes more than 3 games for me to drop a grudge that had been building for 3 years.

When I did my OP I didn't look at current 3 loss teams assuming they wouldn't still have a shot at the end of the year....but I guess mathematically they do.

I guess I'll wait to see if we start having some chaos in the next 2 weeks to see if that's worth looking at...

If BYU (unlikely), Colo, or ISU end up as 3 loss teams I know we would lose the tiebreaker to them over head to head.

Some 2 loss vs 2 loss matchups remaining that will ensure more 3 loss teams:

11/9 WVU @Cincy (I guess we would want WVU to win because in a run the table scenario we would give WVU their 3rd loss)

11/16 BU @WVU (um...we want BU to win)

11/16 ASU @KSU

11/23 Cincy @KSU

11/30 WVU @TT

The bigger trick will be getting at least one of BYU 5-0, ISU 4-1, Colo 4-1 to 3 losses.

Iowa State and Colorado need to get to 4 losses because they beat us both.

Yeah.... And there are scenarios where multiple teams are in second place with three losses. I don't know how tiebreakers work then.

It's the longest of long shots I think.

Mathematically… 12 teams still have a shot. Realistically…6 teams still have a shot.

I hope this helps wake some programs up as the legacy Big 12 teams collectively can and should do better.

Meanwhile the top 2 teams in the SECSECSEC are non-legacy SECSECSEC teams.

The top 4 SEC teams are essentially locks for the CFP, while the Big 12 champion - regardless of what conference it recently came from - is currently fighting for a first round bye vs Boise State. To rephrase, it's clear that the legacy SEC teams are doing just fine despite recent realignment given 2-3 of them will make the CFP, and the same cannot be said about the legacy Big 12 teams which are virtually guaranteed to miss the CFP by a wide margin.

I don't know what the SEC would do without you here -- on this Baylor fan site -- to white knight for it while simultaneously trashing the Big 12 and its schools.
