I would almost propose the P4 conferences all move back to divisions. Winner of each division is guaranteed a playoff spot. Top Group of 5 champion gets in. Three at large, but a conference can only get one at large bid.

If you can only finish as fourth highest ranked team in your conference (looking at you Alabama), you have no business being in the playoff.

Big 10 and SEC would obviously hate this idea, but that's the point.

I hate these bcs comparisons they do. The BCS was biased against certain teams and computer programs can be written to include bias.

Until there is a committee or computer program that has a written, clear list of criteria that looks at all the variables other than school name or conference it will always be biased.

With current rankings, Bama is in and the other SEC teams are outside looking in. No 3 loss team should be ranked above 16 or 17. None of them have a good enough record. And certainly none should be above a 10 win team with better records such as the non-P2 teams currently ranked below them.

Since the playoff started, only 15 teams have qualified (lots of repeats over the years). Boise will be #16 with a first time playoff berth this year, assuming they win.

It's incredibly stupid to have current ADs on playoff committee, especially given the financial incentive for each conference based on how many teams make playoff.

Also ESPN must be truly calling all the shots because I'm honestly shocked big 12 and ACC keep getting slighted despite having just as much representation as SEC and Big 10 on the committee.

Anyone who follows football should know this is true. ESPN for years has done an entire show about the "reveal" of the playoff rankings and then an hour of breaking it down (defending the SEC rankings) and trying to discuss how the bracket would go

UNLV’s best win of the season is…over 5-7 Kansas on the road. Somehow ranked 20th in the CFP.

Boise State’s best win is…over UNLV.

Maybe the idiot committee (really the people at ESPN) will favor anyone over the Big 12 and those teams are conveniently available. It doesn't matter what lame excuses they use. They change their criteria all the time and certainly don't apply them equally. For example, Alabama has no reason to be anywhere near the playoffs. They have not earned it and there are other teams that have earned it ranked lower. This has been the Obama from the beginning in 2014.

For some reason, despite the Big12 clearly having bigger brands and much better football top to bottom, the committee wants to slap down the conference to be equal to the MWC. The ACC still has major markets up and down the east coast that the Big12 doesn't have so it's elevated above simply because they can bring better tv markets.

People need to stop viewing Boise's ranking as respect for the Mountain West.

I think like several B12 teams SMU is a good team...but probably not elite.

But....Clemson is also not anything special this year. Clemson has 3 losses and their only win over a team with a winning record was a 4 point win over 7-5 Pitt.

I think SMU will win tonight. Clemson isn't what they used to be....but a win over a name brand #17 will look good.

ASU also has 4 wins over ranked teams at the time, and was 4-0 against them.
