Go to an 8 game league schedule and add a 4th non con game. Play 1 FCS 2 G5 and 1 G4 non con game. Hell play 3 G5 non con games.
SOS simply does not matter anymore. Committee has made that crystal clear. Than again they'll change the narrative next year to fit whatever schools they perceive as needing a bump to get in.
Sadly, this is true. And the real frustrating part is it's the opposite of what should be happening.

Teams should be rewarded for challenging themselves outside of conference the same way they are in basketball, but that has simply never been the case with the CFP committee, which uses an arbitrary standard that's different for each team it considers.

The honest truth is if I'm Mack (or whoever does the FB scheduling) I'm trying my best to ditch the Auburn& SMU games. Not to dodge competition. But because they simply carry no weight. Being in the B12 and beating an Auburn or SMU will carry zero weight and that's proving itself to be true with each weeks rankings.

Any chance the Big12 could go to 8 conference games? We had all of our best schools damn near disqualify themselves from the CFP hunt because they lost last weekend

Should be the #1 priority when they meet at seasons end. I imagine KSUs coach is far from the only one who will be advocating for that change

No, 9 conference games are locked in through the media deals, so the earliest it would change is the next deal at the end of the decade. While it's possible that the media partners may be willing to reduce on-going payouts in exchange for one less conference game before then, it likely wouldn't be an equitable exchange because there is no incentive for the media partners to agree to it otherwise plus the university presidents would likely balk at less revenue even if it was equitable.

I know some here don't care about conference pride, but I'll be rooting for every big 12 school to win their bowl games. Need to show out and prove the conference can still easily hang with SEC/Big 10

The committee completely nailed it this week. Those are the 12 teams who should be in the playoffs as of right now.

I was hoping it would follow the AP poll. I'm glad there isn't much of an SEC bias, a 3 loss is really pushing it. I would make an exception if A&M won the SEC

SMU will either have to win the ACC championship game or lose in a 7-overtime death match. Otherwise, Bama, after sitting on their ass the weekend of the SEC championship, will be in ... and the committee breathes a huge sigh of relief.

These arguments are so dumb. Besides Oregon and Ohio State, you could make a case for almost every team on why they should be excluded from the playoff…

Maybe Alabama should learn to score against a piss poor OU team, Houston did…

Clemson already has 2 losses like ASU, BYU, and ISU.

So if we are talking about Clemson as an at large they must have some impressive wins on the resume. Let's take a look....

App St 5-5
NCST 5-6
Stanford 3-8
FSU 2-9
WF 4-7
UVA 5-6
VT 5-6
Pitt 7-4
Citadel 5-7 FCS

They do get #15 SCAR this weekend. That would be a nice win.

Apparently strength of schedule means nothing for certain schools. Selective reasoning by playoff committee strikes again.

So let me see if I get this right....

The SEC is so strong because Bama and Aggy sitting at or near the top of the conference can be beat by two SEC bottom feeders OU and Auburn. That shows how strong the whole conference is.

In the B12 when 4-6 KU beats Colo at the top of the conference it shows how shtty the B12 is.

Did I do it right?

Yes, because the worst SEC team is still viewed as better than the best Big 12 school. SEC fans would argue a school like Auburn or OU would stillbe the favorite in a neutral site game against a BYU or Arizona State.

As such, don't be surprised if Big 12 does indeed get left out of the playoff. We're viewed as simply an upper G5 conference now in football.

But wait, it gets better. When the Big 12 teams beat SEC teams in bowl games, well it just means less.

How successful the Big 12 champ is/is not in the CFP will matter more to the college football community than the results of rest of the Big 12 bowls combined.

Cincy 27 Pitt 28 (10th in ACC)
UH 12 OU 16 (T13th in SEC)
UCF 13 Florida 24 (10th in SEC)

I added the current place in standings to those teams to show where they are in their respective conferences. I didn't realize how poor the Big 12 looks on paper against the other P4 other than BYU's win over SMU in Dallas. One glance at that chart and it is easy to see why the Big 12 would only get 1 team in but I would be curious how the other P4 conferences looked with the same chart. But whoever wins the Big 12 definitely belongs above Boise St because a chart with them and the Mountain West would look much worse.

They should just go ahead and move Clemson and Miami to the SEC to give them 18 teams and then the B1G and SEC create their own playoff. It is apparent the people on the committee view the ACC (minus the bluebloods in Clemson and Miami), Big 12 and other conferences all as the old Division 1-AA. It is not going to change. So just have 2 separate playoffs.

Can we please just go back to the BCS? The changes to the committee rankings are likely minimal, but at least we know what we're getting every year and not this ever moving needle every year on the committee's criteria
