It's not on Spavital. It's 100% on the center. We've been in the shotgun most, if not all of this game. And Sawyer is not 8 feet tall. Add one more thing, as much as I like Sawyer, remember it was the vastly more athletic "QB" Washington that covered the ball and preserved the Field Goal. Doubtful Sawyer would have been able to do that. And that fumble might have jumped right into the hands of a Cougar for an uncontested TD.

I'll leave you to your speculation as that's a really massively big "maybe". But look at the reality. The center knows exactly where the QB is. He knows where he needs to place the ball. If it was Sawyer back there doing the snap and cadence he's done hundreds of times, maybe he doesn't snap so high.
