DJ was working with QB guru John Beck in Florida today. I'm told DJ & his father think highly of @BUFootball OC @JakeSpavital. https://t.co/vSEIYNSNkX

UPDATE: Talks between Indiana and Drew Mestemaker have stalled, with the Hoosiers now turning their attention to a Big 12 QB in the portal.

This development puts Ok State in the driver’s seat to land Mestemaker.
A source tells me IU’s offer to Mestemaker was $3.5 million. pic.twitter.com/VPCB5AVTWb

We can wish bubba.
I'm leaning toward him joining LSU where he would walk onto a team with a 7-5 record in the SEC, needing a QB. They missed the playoffs but have a game against Houston in the Texas Bowl
BTW - how is the deer hunting coming. You bang a buck? A doe?

You're really not supposed to do that. Pretty sure the Texas parks and wildlife folks would frown upon that kind of behavior.
Mitch was pretty well known at Baylor for hunting does... and occasionally a buck. Now he lives in Chi-Town where hunting bucks is the norm.

Walker White couldn't even beat out Nate Bennett on the depth chart. There's nothing to show White is worth a crap.

Ya I don't see the WW hype. The Sicem insiders made him sound a bit underwhelming during the preseason

Dave said Nate played only because older. In reality Dave probably didn't want to show him to suitors. He's of course unproven but highest ranked qb we have had in quite some time.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock into those reports TBH. A lot of what they're seeing are basically drills. Frankly, the insiders were also saying that Shapen was way better than Bohannon based on practices, so I'm a little skeptical of their judgment

If the new AD is delivering on the Big $$$ he is billed to the Baylor Nation as attracting, it doesn't have to be either or.

When I was in grad school at UT chance mock beat out Vince Young to win starting job. Lesson for me-depth charts don't mean much until everyone is facing live bullets, but particularly for an elite big QB whose main skill is you can run him between the tackles without worrying about him getting hurt.
That was also why Gerry was always more productive than shapen despite being a better practice QB. On fourth down Gerry gets you an extra yard and shapen slides. On average 2-3 games a year are decided by a short yardage play or two. That's how we lost to tcu in 2022, which to me was the definitive moment for this teams trajectory since then. Even this year if sawyer could have run like 2024 sawyer I think we likely win 2-3 more games, particularly because Bryson and Dawson went down.
Gerry Bohanon threw an absolute bone headed pick against TCU in 2021 when we were in field goal range and down by only 2 points. That pick likely cost Baylor a place in the CFP. That game of inches things goes both ways.Ewalker80 said:

A source close to PFSN says that TCU is a team to watch for Drew Mestemaker 👀

TCU QB Josh Hoover put up volume in 2025 -- 3,472 yards, 29 TDs, and 13 INTs -- but Mestemaker quietly outpaced him in production and efficiency. The former walk-on led the entire country with 4,129… pic.twitter.com/XhNeOidRdN

can't help but notice that Bennett is very skinny, and white is built like a tank and a better athlete to boot. That's going to be a huge asset behind what's going to probably be a terrible offensive line next year

Strictly from a business standpoint, getting Lagway would be huge. Right now, the prospect of Baylor football next season being entertaining enough to choose watching it over "Taxi" reruns is slim to none. We're talking "The Ocho" all season long. But having a highly coveted 5 star for next season would generate a lot of interest and attention nationally and might even fill the stadium next year, at least in the beginning. Especially if they land a good WR and a couple OL in the portal. Not a fan of NIL/free agency college football, but for the sake of drawing eyeballs and hence $ and staying somewhat relevant, he'd be a real good get.

This is absolutely correct.
That said if he's running for his life all game long because we couldn't afford him & enough OL transfers, or we're losing games 52-42 because we couldn't afford him along with enough OL & enough DL transfers, then the glowing narrative fades really fast as the Ls pile up.
So it really comes down to how much NIL we can generate. If our biggest boosters* get reengaged then we certainly could land DJ and the right OL & DL prospects to completely turn the program around in one year. If we're just a bit under that...is our QB room, as is, good enough to win big with a shiny new OL and a revamped Defense?
I do think that's very possible. Blowing out Auburn in Atlanta would get us in the spotlight instantly whoever is QB (although in agreement with the post above, DJ would maxx the intensity of that spotlight).
So I don't envy Doug, Aaron and Dave right now...I'm sure none of those three guys is getting much sleep right now...
*once again, I want to publicly thank Jeremy Fudge for sticking by the program we all love through thick and thin with amazing generosity.
