Tech lapping teams in analytics wasn't on my radar. But this would be a really savvy signing and seems like a strong fit. The fact Indiana has interest is a really good indicator.

I'm with you on that. Sawyer came in as a complete unknown with very little experience, and look what he accomplished. Wasn't his fault the defense didn't hold up its side of the bargain. I'm hopeful of what we could do with Lagway.

Maybe Shawn Bell was not as bad of a QB coach as some on here claimed. I am in no way saying he was a QB whisperer but when he left is when we started to see the regression.

I don't know about that. Sawyer missed enough wide open receivers and sure thing TDs this year that we are probably talking about a 3 to 4 game swing in wins if he hits those throws.

Most of those misses didn't happen with him under duress. They happened as a result of horrible mechanics.

Mitch was pretty well known at Baylor for hunting does... and occasionally a buck. Now he lives in Chi-Town where hunting bucks is the norm.

He has all of the measurables, but man, he can be really bad at times. Idk, I rather throw that money at a more proven QB

Sawyer's problem was 100 percent a lack of running game. Both the loss of top two RBs all year, sawyer playing on one foot, and offensive line regression and losing the coach. Show me a successful qb without a running game. Sure he missed a few passes but he always did and everything was on his shoulders all year. You don't lead fbs in yards and TDs most of the year despite no running game without still being a pretty good QB. He just was given far less to work with than last year. Bryson is the most talented weapon on this team and losing him was huge and amplified by these other losses in the running game.

None of the quarterbacks on the roster have any playing experience to speak of. Nate Bennett and Ed Griffin had no other P4 offers coming out of high school. walker white was highly recruited but apparently struggles with accuracy issues and was always more of a developmental guy.

One or more of these guys may turn out to be amazing, but on paper that's not "loaded"

We get Pendergrass back and improve our run game and defense, with Lagway, we can be a playoff team.

Respectfully, those guys haven't seen game speed, yet. It's a huge jump from private school ball to big 12 speed. Honestly shocked we don't have Texas 5A and 6A quarterfinal/semifinal playoff kids on the roster at QB.

Manning is in his 3rd year at Texas and is just adjusting. (IMO)

Baylor would be better off bringing in three FCS All-American types or at least two year starters to plug into the OL. We really need a LT and two OGs that have 20 or so starters. If Baylor doesn't have an OL, the can sign the top QBs in the portal and it will be a nightmare.

Griffin is 6A from Coppell. Won several rounds of playoff games as I recall. Gets rave reviews from coaches.

White has great dual threat talent but it's very hard to project small school running QBs in particular until they start facing live bullets.

Spav, trying to run a Big 10 run game, up the middle. with human earth movers, at Baylor, is stupid and ridiculous.
He must adjust to the OL BU has, not what he wishes BU had.
BU's QB must be more active. Rollouts, bootlegs, draw plays, play action, rpo's, etc, to prevent the opposing D line from stacking the middle, and getting comfortable.
Spav Must be better at changing O schemes if Baylor is to improve.
Empty passing yards coming from behind look good on paper, but result in going 5-7.

Spav doesn't run an old school big 10 run game. 2024 we were best rushing team in league at the end, and conceptually it's very similar to the briles rushing attack. If you'll recall that was mostly right up the middle once we got everyone worried about the sidelines. People used to complain about that as well for being too much up the middle. If you love wide runs you would likely prefer wide zone and grimes.

Sawyer was Mike Leach last QB recruit - so if anyone ****ed it up....it was Dave....

The more I look into lagway the more I like the idea. Injuries really derailed his 2025 campaign. He had some nice moments in 2024 and the upside is undeniable. He will certainly bring some juice to the program and maybe help us land another big time WR or TE or two. Spav is a very qb friendly coach. Lagway has more talent than some qbs that have done very well with Spav, particularly at WVU. Klanderman should solidify the defense but the path to challenging for the big 12 title is regaining a top offense.

I agree. There were some politics with keeping bell around as long as we did. Cycled him through different positions, he wasn't great at anything. He was quarterback coach from 2021 to 2023. I kind of wonder if he was involved in the decision to keep Shapen over Bohannon. The shapen experiment was ultimately a failure, then Zeno and Drones didn't want to stick around.

Zeno had all-world physical talent, he was just bereft of maturity. Drones was inexplicably left on the bench while Shapen was badly failing on the field. Drones said it himself on the way out, he didn't want to continue remaining on the bench learning what not to do.

Also, the Austin Novosad debacle was likely the last straw for Drones.
