I'd rather us grab a solid Group of 5 QB over Lagway.

Let's be clear - - any result in this upcoming season is not saving Dave's job. If the new AD is even leaning to a Wins goal - then he needs to be axed as well.

Dave needs to grow a pair. "DJ, You have until 1pm today to sign your deal - which by the way just took a 20% haircut. New offer terms".

This whole scenario has Novostink 2 writing on the wall.

Prepare to be disappointed. Not that I agree with it, but I could see diamond dave walking the BU sidelines in 2027 if he gets us to a bowl game in 2026. Administration has embraced mediocrity.

I would be fine with that as well… but it is so late in the game now we may be picking from the leftovers.

Baylor would not have hired a new DC if it was a foregone conclusion that Aranda would not be coaching 2027. Regarding Lagway, it's difficult to assess his specific circumstances without knowing the details of Baylor's offer and the details of any competing offers. Either way, hopefully he either signs ASAP or moves on.

I rarely if I ever get excited about a qb with accuracy problems. I do get excited about good edge rushers and defensive tackles. So I'm not excited yet.

New AD probably doesn't have a W/L number. But he's going to do what he thinks is best after seeing what happens in 2026.

Lagway has completed 60 percent of his passes for his career -- and did so while averaging 10 yards per attempt as a freshman. His issues have been more a product of poor decision-making than accuracy, and those can be remedied by moving to a more quarterback-friendly system with easier throws and reads.

If Spavital wants him, I think he'll be good. Spavital's track record of identifying and developing QBs is very good.

He's probably not going to be facing the same level of defenses, either, for the most part.

Well, this is one of those situations where I'd prefer to be wrong and you right.

So I'm just wondering, this hype on Lagway, is it Baylor fans wishing ?

I ask because a portal site has him rated 14th and Deuce Knight at 21.
Yet the offensive guru at Ole Miss chose Knight. ???

What offensive guru at Ole Miss?

As to Oregon, for some reason I thought they had someone lined up for next year if Dante Moore was not going to be there.

When you build 7-5 teams, sometimes they end up 5-7.

He'd better have specific parameters for Aranda in '26. The Baylor business of scratching their heads and checking their gut as well as the "testimonies" of employees has proven less than satisfactory as a management tool.

The truth is somewhere in the middle between "he's amazing" and "he stinks". I have no clue what we are paying him, but I have seen speculative numbers thrown out, and based upon that, I don't think he's the best 'bang for your buck' prospect we could've found. Biggest issue with him is that he's hurt almost all the time it seems. Behind our offensive line next year, I just don't see how he survives the whole season. So basically, my fear is that we just paid 2,000,000+ for a guy that will play maybe seven or eight games if we're lucky.

That is more commensurate with the offensive line that we've put together if I'm being honest

That is what is frustrating with Baylor. DJ has no options - definitely not what Baylor is likely proposing. We need to slash that number and give him an hour to make a decision. Time to move on. Teach these kids a little about the real world...

The DC became available, we had a job open at a place he had familiarity with and thought he could bring something.

Most assistant coaching jobs are year to year, so Aranda's status after 2026 likely had minimal impact. I mean, we fire assistants nearly every damn year. They tend to not have long term contracts.

The new DC could also be a possible replacement as HC if the season goes the wrong way, so the pros and cons pretty much even out for him that way. It was a good job in the Big 12 and he brough a few guys with him.

Does anyone here know the terms of his contract with Florida such as when it actually expires and what the buyout is at this point until then, if it has not already expired? It seems something like this could be a key component of things. I don't know that it is . But many here seem to think they know what is going on so I ask.

I suppose he is waiting for his Lambo dealership to open in Waco...

Exactly. I don't get being mad about something that hasn't even happened yet. Until he commits somewhere else, he's committed to Baylor. And there will be plenty of time to cuss him if he flips. There's no reason to do so before that happens, though.

It depends.

Lagway was in a bad offensive system for his skillset as Napier was very run-friendly and risk averse. And Lagway was injured during preseason (and it's unclear how well he healed during the season).

The question is going to be:
1) Will he thrive under Spav's more aggressive offensive style where he'll feel more comfortable?
2) Is his injury something he can fully rebound from by next season?

I'm not sure that's true. His real issue is that he's injury prone. Availability really is your best asset
