Both Bell and McGuire came on board together, what is the difference, if any in their upward professional aspirations? My point: one already accepted, one hasn't - is it an age issue?
The lack of appreciation some of you have for high school coaching experience is pretty crazy.BUbackerinET said:

Reading he was offered a spot on OUs staff. He's not taking a DC with UTSA because he turned down the HC job there already. Graham took the Hawaii job
???? When was McGuire offered the HC position at UTSA?

I'm not sure why anyone is worried about a position coach leaving. He isnt the only great recruiter out there. That said it would be nice if he stays. It sounds like Aranda has done what he can on his end for it to happen. This is business. I'm not sure it helps him much on getting a DC slot somewhere by spending next season as a position coach somewhere else anymore than it does spending next season as a position coach here. But maybe he thinks it does.

Corporate American isn't nice, but it isn't wrong either. Go work for Ford and tell them you're leaving for Nissan.
They take your things, escort you to the door, and pay you the two weeks to stay at home. They can't risk sharing secrets and it's worse in other industries.
He's had an offer, if he doesn't want it, he needs to make a decision.
This. I like Shawn. I hope he continues to grow as a coach with a new position that isn't OL, but there's a reason OU and Texas and every other major program in the area would gladly give McGuire a position job on their staffs right now. It's experience, pedigree, and recruiting. The same can't be said of Bell yet.bear2be2 said:The lack of appreciation some of you have for high school coaching experience is pretty crazy.BUbackerinET said:

Shawn Bell had been coaching for about 10 years total when he was hired by Rhule at Baylor. McGuire had been at Cedar Hill for 19 years, 14 of those as the head coach.
McGuire's experience and success levels both trump Bell's by a long shot. And he'd also built relationships in the Texas high school coaching ranks that Bell hadn't had the opportunity to build yet.
I like both guys a ton and think both have head coaching futures if they want it. But McGuire is several rungs higher up that ladder than Bell is and has options at the college level right now that Bell hasn't earned quite yet.
This is such a good post. And I do own a Ford Focus. Haha.ydre2 said:TellMeYouLoveMe said:

except he hasn't told them he's leaving for Nissan. rather, he turned down Nissan, came to Ford and fell in love with the place and culture (which he helped establish). not only that, his son joined him at the company as well. he publicly got denied a promotion which he may have been underqualified for and Nissan and Toyota, unsolicited, offered him a job bc they hope he can contribute to their company the same way he contributed Ford. meanwhile, some people who own a Ford Focus are telling him how he should go about making a decision.

Anyone who thinks that McGuire should have been picked over Aranda is certifiable. McGuire is a great guy, and the players love him, and he has an offer to stay. Keep in mind though, he's been watching what Rhule did after every season.

Definitely makes sense, considering they ended up hiring a poor mans Joey McGuire.Wineguy89 said:Stefano DiMera said:

Incorrect. He interviewed for it a few months ago and was offered the position. He opted to decline and stay at Baylor. You can choose why....either because he thought Rhule was staying and things would keep rolling along OR....he thought Rhule was gone and he'd have a legit shot at the HC role.
Either way he had the UTSA job this off season if he wanted it.
It's a curious response from a grown man who's been throwing a three-week **** fit since Rhule left for a $60 million payday in the NFL, isn't it? I'm having trouble reconciling the two positions frankly.LIB,MR BEARS said:Im sorry, is this question your answer?TellMeYouLoveMe said:How many people do you know that made it to the C-Suite of a business after three years in the industry?LIB,MR BEARS said:

This ain't TAPPS and Joey didn't coach TAPPS football. He understands he must make the most of his opportunity and do what's best for him. I respect him because of the job he did at Baylor and will respect his decision on his future.
I don't begrudge the guy if he thinks he needs to leave to move up. I don't think that's at UT or OU, I think they'll use him and that's a bad outcome, that I certainly don't wish on him. Not a shred of doubt in my mind that he will have less authority in those programs than he did in ours. After they've gotten what they want from him, he'll have less power and mobility. I think he'd be better off trying to move to a mid-tier MAC program or a program that NEEDS him. Just like Briles situation. When he makes it there, then he's in a position to shoot for a HC role. But a horizontal move isn't going to improve the Joey McGuire brand. More risk than upside.
As you said, he's a good coach, but he's handing this organizational stuff the wrong way.

Agreed. They spoke on the phone on the Thursday prior to the game. One of 8-10 preliminary calls Mack made to start lining our face to face interviews. Proves nothing at all. Glad we got CDA but if y'all think that knowing they spoke the week before proves he was guaranteed to be hired a week later, well then I can't help you.
If that was the case, then why did the search staff go meet face to face with CDA and his family for 6 hours the next week?
