That was my immediate thought as well. If Franklin heads to LSU then Rhule would be an obvious target for PSU.PartyBear said:
Naturally. Always looking for the greener pasture if true. I said last week I would not be surprised if he has reached out to USC and LSU. If Franklin leaves PSU you can be about sure he is seeking that one. He is like Dennis Erickson but with a wholesome packaging (which he is probably about to wear out). The guy likes to flake on jobs every 3 or so years it seems, if he is looking to leave already. If he gets one of these jobs he should take Charlie.

I would be wary as an AD. He spends no time being loyal to the employer and the results aren't really good enough to warrant dealing with that drama.
This. The guy did a job at Baylor that no one thought possible. I will always be grateful to him for that. I did not even begrudge him for leaving for the NFL. However, if he goes back to college after one year, it will stain his reputation in my mind. But I'll still be thankful for him setting us up for success after the fake Briles scandal.boognish_bear said:
I've been a Rhule defender….and will still always appreciate the huge turnaround he did at BU to not only get us winning again….but help rehab our horrible image at the time. I think only a small handful of coaches could have done much better in that situation.
But, it will feel a little disingenuous if he hops back to college after just 2 years since we heard so much about his dream being the NFL.
I think he would kill it at LSU. I think he still has strong ties to Texas HS football coaches. You could see it across Twitter when he wore that THSCA hat before the Panthers/Texans game in Houston.
He might even be able to bring Brady back to LSU.
Exactly what I was thinking.Robert Wilson said:

Not so sure about dominating in the Pac. Objectively Baylor was not dominant in 19. Baylor was very fortunate that season to have gotten out of it with an 11-3 record. We are more dominant now in the first half of this season under Aranda.dstaylor57 said:
Sees writing on the wall - his methods aren't working in the NFL because other coaches are just as good/tough as he is. USC or Penn St. if Franklin leaves. He can dominate the PAC, not so much in the BIG, and definitely not in the SEC.
He would do well either of those places. Should be easy to win at USC with the PAC schedule. And he's a PSU guy after all. B10 still serves up a lot of candy games throughout the course of the season. That's a huge conference with a lot of soft teams in it.dstaylor57 said:

The Peter Principle isn't just applied to the business environment. :rolleyes:JP1037 said:
He is a good example of the Peter Principle for the Business Department.

My big problem with Rhule is the only reason most people think he is a great turnaround coach is because he went 1-11 in his first year. 1-11 was his fault, he had at least 5 win talent. How can he get credit for a turnaround a losing program he was mostly responsible creating? I don't get it.
In my opinion we didn't have a long term chance of success with Rhule's offense. I don't hate him and I appreciate what he did for us (it was one good year that we needed) but I was glad to see him go.

This. And his impact here was more than "one good year." We're still building on the foundation he laid -- without which our program would be a total mess right now.Bear8084 said:JP1037 said:

He gets credit because a lot of that 1-11 season wasn't his fault as proved over and over again on here in these "CMR sucks!" threads.
I dont know how much say KM has within the LSU athletic dept. If she has alot of sway, I dont think Rhule goes to LSU.DST said:
I've already said he will be coaching LSU next season. Rhule is the cure to the disease they have right now.
I've also said that while I understood why he'd leave here for an NFL job and why the NFL would be appealing, I've never thought what made him a good coach would apply to pro football. Rhule's a motivator, shaper of young men type. He didn't make it to the NFL because was necessarily a perfect fit for it. He made it there because of networking and the fact that coaching hires in the league are 90% of the time about who knows who and reputation.
I expected him to be back in college within five years. I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen after only two if it means landing a job like LSU, USC, or Penn State.
I'm with you. Mack hired Rhule knowing he was only going to get a few years out of him, and that was always my expectation as well. The baseline expectation in the athletic department was to use him to get us back to battling for titles again - however long that was going to take - and he did that. Anything beyond that was a bonus. It was just part of the package you accepted with a coach who was already getting NFL looks and expressed his desire to go to the NFL before we even contacted him.bubear20 said:
I don't know why all of y'all hate the guy so much. He was very clear from the start he wanted to coach in the NFL. Now that he's there, it may not be what he thought it would be and I would imagine has difficulty running as physical of practices. He is actually one of the most loyal people you'll ever meet almost to a fault. Stop being hurt he left and be thankful he came when he did, without him doing what he did here we would never have been in a position to get Aranda.
Last note if any of you believe a coach in a press conference saying they won't leave you're crazy. That's their answer because they can't say anything else. You would lose total confidence from your team if you said "oh yeah and by the way I plan on coaching in the NFL next year." None of y'all do that in your jobs so why is it any different for coaches, asking as a coach myself.
