It might actually be a blessing for Tang. He caught lightning in the bottle getting to the elite 8 in his first year, with a big home win vs. archrival as well. Pressure should be off to allow him to take a couple of years to build the program up. I don't know what kind of NIL$ they have up there, but I figure there are players who watched what KSU did this year and want in on that.IowaBear said:

Does the culture of JOY require keeping players who are not productive so you don't hurt their feelings?
I think those mentioned above came expecting regular minutes per game. For the most part they went elsewhere to get that playing time. Every program has guys on the bench who only get playing time in blowouts, and stay around because they are good teammates, contribute well in practice, etc. Some folks on this site are way too concerned about the 12th and 13th. guys on the roster.vanillabryce said:Timbear said:

Not sure. Maybe ask Deuce Bello, Givon Crump, Nolan Dennis, Stargell Love, Tyson Jolly, and all the others who've transferred out because they weren't good enough.

Talked to a buddy of mine that is tied in to UNC, he said that there is something going on that is not right…some rumors of possible improprieties. They obviously have had 5-6 guys jump in the portal. Will be interesting to see what their incoming class looks like. Hubert will get one more year, but if he has another seasons with zero quad one wins he will be gone.

You mean like players not going to class or getting grades for bogus classes?? Seems like I remember hearing something about that.

No team will legitimately play 11-12 players regularly. You're 100% right about the unnecessary obsession with those spots on our bench.
Oh yeah? Name the last national championship squad that routinely played their 11-12th men off the bench in anything more than garbage time. I'll wait.Adriacus Peratuun said:The best teams [legitimate annual championship contenders] routinely rely on players 9-12 for injury/illness replacement, load management, and blowout win/loss minute absorption.Mitch Henessey said:

If recognizing championship formula recognition is "unnecessary obsession", count most experts into that group.

Looking at a couple of guys in the portal: Ace Baldwin, 6-0 VCU guard, good scorer, top level defender. Any chance on him?Crawfoso1973 said:
Re: the debate on the 11th and 12 guys on the roster, I am in the middle on this. I personally feel those spots should be used for high upside / developmental players willing to redshirt, such as Bonner and Grimes. Unfortunately, we just had our 11th and 12 players materially contribute nothing after 3 and 4 years of occupying roster spots that could have been used to stash high-upside players that could be in line to contribute next year or the year after.
On the other hand, I do realize our program is guided by a "culture of JOY" wherein our staff values team culture and won't run guys off who don't pan out the way they hoped they would. As long as they are willing practice players and contribute to the program, we don't run them off. That sends a message to recruits and their families that said culture of JOY isn't just empty rhetoric, but that our staff is loyal to players and will see them through to get their Baylor degree if that is what they choose to do.

Craw, I know you and I have disagreed in the past on 5-stars vs developing underrated/hungry players, but this post sums up BU's current state perfectly. Would rather err on the side of JOY and hit on the Bonners, Grimes and Vitals, but you're right, those types of dudes might never show up if we get a reputation for quickly cutting our losses at the end of the bench.Crawfoso1973 said:
