I bet he's happy to pay this. I'm glad he spoke up.

But they would have fined him more if he'd done "Horns Down!"

Rhoades was very unprofessional in the way he handled this matter. He has avenues to fix problems that others do not have. He should avail himself of those opportunities in a professional way. I hope his behavior does not hurt the actual solving of the problem.

In addition, I think it would not be out of order for the school to also express to him its displeasure in the way he behaved after the game.

An Athletic director should not be constantly in from of the camera. His job is administrative. It is time for him to learn that lesson and remove himself from the sidelines and get behind the scenes where administrators belong.

Nah, he needed to speak up. Fans were pissed and the entire nation watched that travesty. To not say anything would be ignoring a herd of elephants in the room.
Our vibrations were getting nasty. But why? I was puzzled, frustrated... Had we deteriorated to the level of dumb beasts?

Rhoades isn't constantly in front of the camera. I can't recall him ever doing anything even remotely like this.

Programs put in quiet requests and complaints about refereeing all the time. And yet the Big 12's reffing is as bad as it's ever been. He issued a public protest after what was one of the worst refereeing jobs of all time, while being given no answers nor responses by the offending refs after the game. Rhoades was also protecting his future HOF head coach.

They threw out one of the most ref-friendly coaches in America which massively tilted the game and almost seriously dented Baylor's conference title chances over absolutely nothing. When refs start reaching into your bag like that and the conference is doing nothing, I don't blame Rhoades one iota for his action.

Mack did the right thing. He was protecting the program. that official was WAY out of line and his history with other conferences and his propensity for retaliation calls show he has no business officiating any NCAA game.

Question that comes to mind is where does this money go? Is it distributed to the members of the Conference? Does Baylor get a portion of the distribution??

They give it to the refs to soothe their hurt feelings !

Fine money in any sport like NBA NFL NHL usually go to that leagues charitable foundations. Not to the teams

Our fine during Briles scandal was distributed to conference charities and the conference diversity and inclusion iniatives. No school received a dime.

Go Mack!

If he wasn't already a millionaire I'd be up for a GoFundMe to help cover the fine. Glad he spoke up so publicly. I'm sure that meant a lot to CSD and the team.

Because the NCAA penalizes criticism even if it is deserved.
Glad he spoke out. It was egregious.

I suggest you write Emily Post, Dear Abby, and Ann Landers about Mack's breaches of social etiquette.

Be sure to include that he wasn't even wearing a necktie when he spoke up! And probably his shoes weren't shined either.

That's absurd. The officiating was so blatantly horrible that he had a duty to speak out and defend his players and coaches.

Big fine but I think it was important for him to show the coaches and players he has their back, at least as much as an AD can have your back.

Will be curious to see if any of that crew refs another game in Waco this season. The conference has to protect their officials, so a fine is not a surprise. But if those guys are still at Baylor games, that means the conference also does not care.

Lest we forget... Kirby Hocutt at Tech was fined the same amount for criticizing the refs after we beat them in football in OT in 2019.

So 25k looks like the standard.

There comes a time when leaders (of which Mack is one) need to speak up. At times, going outside the general course of action is what is required to fix a problem. The Big 12, instead of fining Rhoades, needs to begin working on the much more difficult problem of ensuring that our games are officiated by officials who call games fairly.

Big 12 Conference loves to take the easy way out (fining an AD) over actually fixing the real problem.

you want an ivory tower AD?! i guess we can call Sloan to see if he wants to come back. Out of sight, out of mind?

Email to Mack sent this morning. Sure he has money, but I don't care. Instead of fining people, the Big 12 needs to get off its collective bum and do something about bad officiating.

Lauren / Mack,

There is a significant contingent of fans who would be happy to donate if you guys start a GoFundMe for the $25,000 fine instituted by the Big 12.

Mack now has a significant outpouring of support from Baylor alumni and supporters because he stood for what is correct regardless of the consequences. Social media comments about his actions are largely supportive.

If there is anything lay people can do to influence the Big 12 Office in Irving to actually address the problem, please let us all know. And I will spread the word.

Seth

I don't mind the fine. What I do mind is the fact that the underlying problem of bad officiating is not addressed.

Judging by past inaction, it wouldn't surprise me if the same crew shows up tonight and proceeds to take a dump at half court.

If you are being sarcastic, then wonderful. I've already given to GXG. I want to give specifically to a campaign to wipe out Rhoades' fine. And I don't care that he's rich.
