Officially baffled beyond belief he made that Twitter post knowing his family was in Lexington. Little Busch league imo. Maybe I'm being dramatic. But that doesn't sit well with me

I think you're making too much of that. He may not have made his mind up yet. He was at lunch with a buddy. He tweeted it. I think it's a mistake to read too much into it. He is at Baylor until he's not.

He tweeted it at the precise moment the world thought he was on a plane to Lexington. He knew what he was doing.
Yes but it turns out his wife was on that plane, which in most Christian marriages I'm aware of that's almost as good as him being on it. Sending his wife is effectively Drew taking a test the waters trip. It was a pretty dishonest tweet on it's face. Tell a truth to hide the truth.

Idk about any of yall but had he just not said or tweeted anything & took the job I'd have been upset in the moment but at the end of the day I'd have gotten over it. It's kinda like Alabama football. How can you get upset at someone for taking that opportunity. I would have been cheering for Baylor & Kentucky next year.

That tweet changes everything for me. If he leaves after sending that I'm going to actively wish for him to fail like I do Mulkey.

Totally unrelated to anything but that guy he's eating with looks like Jerome Tang & Bruce Pearl's 60 year old love child.

If the reason behind the tweet was truly to cover his family from UK's rabid fanbase during the visit... I can't blame him. That's a totally reasonable justification.

I was about to say the same. One HUGE positive is we don't have to listen to some of our fans crying about one and dones cuz that won't be happening for a while. Roster continuity isn't always sexy but some stability can produce better results in March due to more senior teams.

I don't picture BU bball without Drew on the sidelines as he just seemed like a lifer (which is a shame as he won't end his career at UK). However, I don't think we're instantly going back to the dark days. If we picked up McCasland, I wouldn't lose one bit of sleep over this other than being sad to see the face of the program, culture of JOY, etc. not be on our side anymore.
Our own boards are really down on Drew.

I think he's got at least 1 more Natty in him be it Baylor or Kentucky, and at Kentucky he's never going to get out bid for the portal players he wants.
I don't think anyone -- other than the fly-by clowns at the end of the Clemson game -- are down on Drew. I think all real Baylor fans would prefer that he stay.

But if he leaves, he's left us with some really good options from his tree and excellent foundation to build from. We'll be in good shape either way.

The guy took over Chernobyl and is leaving (if he does) as one of the top programs in the country. My optimism going forward has a lot to do with what he's built here.

You are more confident than I that the foundation Drew has created will remain solid. I think Drew recruited talent to our program that no successor of ours is going to be able to replicate.

He wont' get away with such cover in Kentucky.

Sorry - meant that assuming he's going to UK, I don't see him retiring there. Expectations, realistic or not, are UT level between BMD, fanbase, and lack of patience. Local media even said in Smoak's interview earlier this week that coach shelf life at UK is about 10 years max as the fan base starts looking for reasons to move on.

Ah yeah, I just think Drew will retire early to mid 60s like Jay Wright, 10 years at Kentucky would get him there.

Found this tweet on their page.

The rumor mill is in overdrive claiming Baylor has already reached out to McCasland and TT is working on a counter offer. I would love that to be true… But I highly doubt all of that is already in motion.

Yeah their boards don't seem enamored with that guy as a source. You would think the TT media (who is more active than ours) would be on this right now too if the Grant McCasland thing was real. Not that I don't think Rhodes has plans to go after him or Tang if there's an opening, just saying any Kentucky fan who's spent ten minutes on these message boards could make that connection up.

11pm update: I think he's staying. Immediate family not on board. He wanted a clear answer and that is it. Lots of people from his past telling him "you have to take it, it is Kentucky" but it just doesn't make sense for his family. Drew will turn the page quickly and be all in on building Baylor basketball back to the top.
I liked what I heard about the portal options. Feel free to dunk on me forever if I am wrong. But I don't think he's going against his family wishes even if he has the itch to embrace the challenge. He's getting wise counsel.

Csd gone crazy:

Trolls Baylor fans just before taking the UK job.
Sees all the Kentucky fan obsession and hysteria, media coverage, and prying eyes all regarding a plane flight and still takes the job
Sends his wife and inadvertently puts her in the spotlight In order to take job
In the NIL timeline, everyone knows that his success with the UK job isn't even close to a sure thing, yet it will be a pressure cooker for him and family, and he still takes the job

Strange time for the culture of joy.

Probably the most misdirection and uncertainty of any one candidate for a premier job in the sport I've seen in a looong long time. Wild. Was already up and updates still trucking on.

Not going to lie, if the irony here is he gets turned off to the job by the insanity of the Kentucky folks who want him to take the job. That would be beautiful irony.

I'm thinking he's gone.

One positive for him if he leaves is he doesn't have to coach and recruit against his former assistants anymore. I mean, I guess Kentucky recruits against everyone, but he'll be the only one in the SEC with the "culture of joy" message.

We'd fire Drew if he had enough bad seasons. I don't see why he wouldn't leave after he has enough good ones. There is a lot more to life than loyalty to your employer

I am hoping against all hope that CSD stays in Waco. That said, trusting the owners of this site to have the inside scoop is a great way to end up with egg on your face.

Ashley Hodge was the guy that posted that the BOR would be giving Briles a second chance in 2016. Etheridge (or maybe it was Hodge) posted that the HC hire in 2017 would be Chad Morris. All of them got scooped by ESPN that Aranda was coming back for (at least) one more year this year.

Look, I appreciate this site as a forum to discuss Baylor sports, a gathering place to interact with other Baylor fans, and all the resources they provide (Smoaky foremost amongst them). But if you're coming here for inside info, there are no true "insiders" to be found here. It's just speculation, much like what most of the UK crap that's been posted on this thread has been.

Last thing I'll say here until the whole thing is over, because, unlike most of these UK nutjobs, I actually have a job that requires me to show up and be on my game.

I've only met Scott Drew one time in-person, and it was many years ago. Around the same time that we made our first NCAA appearance under him. What I will say is that through that interaction, years of Baylor fandom, having season tickets while we still lived in TX, and listening to or watching nearly every press conference he's ever done, he is the most relentlessly positive person I can think of. I have no doubt he thinks he'll be able to win at Kentucky. And I am willing to bet he's right. Mitch Barnhart is a close, personal friend of his. The UK donor base won't be outbid on a player that the staff really wants. He'll have all the institutional support and resources he could ever want. More than Baylor could probably ever hope to give him, unless he stays and wins 2-3 more Nattys.

But, the UK fanbase is unhinged. He is not going to enjoy that portion of the job. Sure, he'll enjoy a packed arena with rowdy, knowledgeable fans on game days, but all the other stuff isn't going to be nearly as fun.

He may have been flattered by the UK fan calling the restaurant he was at yesterday and pleading with him to take the job, but is he going to enjoy being woken up in the middle of the night by a phone call from a drunk fan yelling at him after a tough OT loss at Tennessee or Auburn? Is he ready for a "FOR SALE" sign in his yard when he wakes up after his team craps the bed like we did in Manhattan this past season?

Those games happen, and that's the most upset I've been in years after a game, but not once did I (or probably any other rational Baylor fan) think about getting on twitter and berating players or coaches about it. That's not going to be the case in Lexington.

Is he ready for his wife and possibly parents to get death threats after a loss? Is he ready for his sons to get harassed by their classmates if things aren't going well? Is he ready for his players to be told how worthless they are repeatedly in nearly all of their social media mentions if the team starts 2-3 in conference play? Is he ready for his family to have to change their phone numbers every few months because someone got a hold of it through a "friend of a friend of a friend" and starts harassing them?

You can be the most positive person in the world, but that **** will wear on you. He may win big, and I think he will, but part of his spirit will be crushed by that place. It's inevitable, and it's happened to every coach they've had, dating back to Adolph Rupp. I hope he's going in with eyes wide open.

PartyBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He would win big but no bigger than he has won here, and that isn't enough to be given 5 years at UK I don't think.
