Not so much injuries aa defections and what some Okies call 'stubborn recruiting'. Their top recruits from 2 years ago, Dungee and Mulkey, stayed only one year and transferred. Dungee is now the leading scorer at Arkansas and Nancy Mulkey is the second-leading scorer at Rice. Sherri brought in no new post player after Mulkey. Shaina Pellingston, an explosive player from Canada, was Freshman of the Year last season but at some time this year she got in SC'a doghouse and has rarely left the bench. This year's freshmen are very similar players scrappy, high achool guards and forwards, that are struggling to play D1 WBB. Sherri doesn't host a summer camp, so there is no early cultivation of in-state talent. Her coaching staff is an amalgam of old friends and her son Colton who never coached before. Lots of criticism for SC and her $1.2 million salary and cries for change,. Yet, the woman is entrenched at OU until Joe Castelone applies some pressure on changing her staff or demanding marked unprovement on the court, and yet few believe that will truly happen
Meanwhile, the hatred for Baykir and Kim Mulkey on that board is palpable and irrational, with regular screeds about The Witch in Waco and her win-at-all-costs philosophy. A couple of posters recently called Lauren Cost the dirtiest player they had ever seen and they can't believe that officials miss how she pushes opponents around. SMH. Perhaps they have forgotten the play of Courtney Paris, and perhaps the refs that are just a few feet away from Lauren see very well how tough she plays and don't see that as fouling.
Even though my dad was a "Sooner born and bred"- grad of OU, I am shedding no tears at the demise of their WBB program.
