And then you have ND over Stanford 96-47.

Stanford is living proof of what happens when you lose an elite coach (there are only 3 left now in WBB) and what happens to the program immediately after. Stanford is 3-8 in the ACC and 11-11 overall. They won't make the tournament. With all their history and knowing the change was coming, it didn't matter.

For those that want to continually diss our program and staff can you not see that we have landed on our feet darn well and have not suffered the pronounced and immediate drop-off that occurred with every other school who lost their elite coach...and those schools knew they were losing the coach well ahead of time. Some of those schools have taken years and years to get back to even being close to where they were. Some are still in the ditch.

You just don't lose an elite coach and not feel the effect. I am thankful that all we have seen was a speed bump and not an abyss. Our key players stayed and didn't desert and kept us afloat long enough to allow us to start the rebuild, which I for one am enjoying to watch and with a staff that is of an age that hopefully we don't have to start over again until well down the road. That change was always coming because of KM's age, it just came sooner than we expected or wanted.
Another positive Stanford had going for it was the value of a degree. When I was faculty representative both Knoll and Mulkey told me that Stanford had that advantage when recruiting some elite athletes who wanted to go to a higher academic ranking school.Stanford still has the degree but not Tara. And,NIL $ probably trumps all for many recruits as well.

Degree at Stanford is considered one of the best in the country. I had 2 good friends who played sports at Stanford. One works at NASA and the other works at the Pentagon.

I had thought that might insulate them a bit from the drop off of losing their elite coach. But that doesn't seem to matter at least so far. Their biggest problem might now be their location. That conference travel schedule has got to be brutal.

First year coach Caldwell has done a phenomenal job in her first year in the SEC. Most of her players are transfers. Most are experienced seniors and juniors. No one in the SEC wants to play them.

That (bolded above) is pretty much the story line for most teams outside of a very few in this new world of free agency and NIL. Some years you have them and some years you don't. Hence seeing more different teams rise up from time to time.....and then drop back down.

It makes it tough for coaches and the fans. You think you have something for the future and then you don't.

#6 USC takes down #1 UCLA 70-61, the last undefeated team in top 25. Now only 2 teams in top 25 with one loss, UCLA and LSU.

3 'big' ones (ranked vs ranked) which honestly is the only thing that moves the needle in WBB
#5 LSU at #3 Texas
#7 UConn at #4 S.Carolina
#10 NC State at #12 UNC

Definitely watching the first one, mainly to watch the coaches--two of the most volatile and entertaining. Which one will get T'd up first? Geno and Dawn close second.

watched #6 usc,w take down #1 and previously undefeated ucla last night in troy's gym, 71-60. the place looked full which is seldom if ever the case for mbb there. the court was lined with celebrities much like laker games. it was a late affair which i wanted to shut off for bed but couldn't. fun watch.

both teams are heavily dependent on their all-americans: juju for sc and betts for ucla. i was a little surprised by how single-player-centered each team played it last night. juju did go off for 38 and 11 though. suspect both teams to be either a one or two seed.

SC doesn't have the dominate post play they're used to this season. UConn winning doesn't surprise me. The score definitely does

SC in shock. Don't think Fulwiley coming back in will make a difference. Geno's on a mission.

I have heard CNC make a comment about this situation. It is a fine line to make a decision when a key player picks up fouls early on whether you are essentially fouling out your own player by benching them the rest of the half. It is quite common to see players pick up early fouls and then come back in the 2nd half and end the game with the same number of fouls or one at the most.

You would be correct. Losing Cardoso was huge, despite keeping the rest of the team intact.

With Cardoso, they're likely still undefeated and the odds-on favorite to win the whole thing.

Now, their repeating is up in the air.

They're still a Final 4 Team in all likelihood. But unlike last year, the quest to repeat will depend on matchups/opponents.

Cardoso is in the WNBA. You may be thinking of Ashlyn Watkins who went out earlier in the season with an ACL tear.

Hornettes start 0-8 shooting vs LSU. Vic eerily calm. Zero fouls called on Hornettes in Q1. 10-10

No. I meant the 6'7 Cardoso.

She actually had an extra year of eligibility due to Covid, but chose to go to the league.

Her loss has been felt the most.

Watkins is listed at 6'3, so not quite the same impact in the paint.

LSU up 28-19 over Hornettes at half. Hornettes shooting 18% LSU only 37% Booker 0-11, only score 2 FTs. They finally did wellness check on Vic to make sure still breathing.
