Lets also remember that Kent Starr is really the person wo brought Rodriguez to Baylor (From their Pepperdine connection). Ian McCaw was in the midst of the football scandal and was fighting for his own job.

I think Rhoades will make the right hire/fit for Baylor.
You mean Ken Starr, not Dr. Kent?

I guess Rice is glad they didn't use that logic when the hired Wayne Graham. And Mitch is not 63 and he wasn't 27 when he graduated college.

I see Mitch and I see cardiac arrest. Enough said.

Mitch is not in his 60"s.
Mitch can recruit just as good as anyone in the state of Texas
Mitch probably has had more players at MCC drafted than Baylor has in the 7 years Rodriguez was at Baylor.
No one will out work Mitch
It is does not matter that Mitch has never been a head coach at a D1 school. Texas Tech made an ok hire when they hired a JUCO head coach named Tadlock.

With all that being said, I am not saying Mitch would be my first choice. But to hint that the game has passed him by or that he is too old is ridiculous

Baseball is different from football and basketball as you don't have elaborate offensive and defensive schemes.

It's all recruiting and player development. 10% of it is decisions made before and during a game.

Nah. Similar to 2015, Heefner's got too many big things happening right now in Dallas. The timing doesn't work.

My guess is it's going to be Trout from Texas State. They're still in the tournament. Maybe watch out for Justin Haire from Campbell. I doubt it's going to be an assistant. It won't be Mitch Thompson either.

Trout has a very young energetic staff. They are having a great year. I'm not sure if he fits what Baylor needs, but he should be on the short list for an extensive interview. I would first ask him what his recruiting strategy be? Because the tuition thing at Baylor is real. It 1000% effects what type of kid will even answer a phone call from a Baylor coach, much less sign with Baylor.

Let's hope the changes being discussed regarding scholarships come to pass. 11.7 scholarships for baseball is ridiculous.

There is so talk of baseball having 25 full rides. If that happens, it completely changes the landscape of college baseball recruiting. Private schools will be very attractive to kids if that is the case.

My question, and I think this is what should happen, it levels the playing field, but how would that affect title 9.
Chucky38
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think Title 9 will be adjusted . Everything in College sports is completely different now that the NCAA is seen as a dying dog. Title 9 has some legality helping it, but I feel they will have to adjust it.

It applies to all sports rosters. Quite a commitment actually so everyone has equal amount of scholarship.

Steven Trout is probably the best (realistic) option because he's young (37). Has Big 12 recruiting experience at WVU. Loads of Texas recruiting experience. This was his first legitimate, non-Covid season as HC and they dominated this year.

A 2-seed in the tournament and 2 outs away from the Super Regionals until they gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th last night. He also won Sun Belt COTY. (FWIW, the Sun Belt had 4 tourney teams this year. It's a fantastic baseball conference.)

One WHALE to watch out for is Gary Gilmore from Coastal Carolina. Major longshot, he may be tempted. I believe he's in his late 50s. Stunned the country by winning a national title 5+ years ago. Tons of energy. He talks about his faith probably more than nearly every major coach in college athletics.

Of course, there isn't a ton of motivation for him to leave his alma mater although he may want to pass the program on to a younger coach. He's was the highest paid employee at Coastal Carolina until a year ago when Jamey Chadwell got a contract extension.

ECU also has a big-time coach in Cliff Godwin. Like Gilmore, he's incredibly open about his faith. Came close to landing the LSU job last year and I believe Clemson is looking at him hard. But I also do not believe that Baylor is strong on his radar (and vice versa). Wouldn't be a good fit for a few reasons and I think his dream is to be an SEC HC (which he almost certainly will).

From MCC to head coach of a D1 program sure seems like a big jump even in a "smaller" sport like baseball.

Hey, Mitch was the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Baylor during the Smith era. It is not like he doesn't know division 1 baseball. He was also an assistant coach at Mississippi State. During his time at Baylor, you should look at the names of players he recruited. Some of the top players in the last 30 years of Baylor baseball.

The JUCO to D1 head coach has been done very successfully in the past, just look at what Wayne Graham was able to do at Rice.
