KaiBear: "Trump can't win the general "
The polls and 2016 say otherwise. While 2016 won't exactly repeat, neither will 2020.
Trump may win, or he may lose. But saying he can't win is a lie straight out of Biden's mouth.
That is absurd.
Only about 20-30 people participate in this message board .
Even so, the truth is that Trump can win. Maybe he won't, and maybe if he wins he will do a lousy job, but only an idiot or a liar would claim he cannot win with what we know at this time.
How can you consistently ignore the political realities of Trumps legal problems ?
He just lost over 80 million dollars in a civil suit.
Do you really think this helps his case with independents ?
Really think the state and federal charges are just going to magically disappear ?
Or that independent voters won't care ?
Think !
** Sigh **
1. Trump gains support every time his enemies launch another trial, have you not noticed that?
2. There is zero chance that amount stands up to the appeal, especially given the judge's behavior in the case.
3. Yes, Biden is so bad that this will not hurt Trump with independents. Trump can hurt himself if he says something incredibly stupid, which is a real possibility with Trump, but no, this lawfare crap is obvious for what it is.
4. Whatever happens in the federal cases will be held in limbo until after the election. Zero chance that the appeals court lets anything conclude prior to the election.
Seriously dudes stop taking your cues from CNN and use that pudding between your ears. I know it's the fashion these days to assume Trump supporters are all brain-dead morons, but while I am still unhappy with DeSantis dropping out of the race, I recognize that Trump's base is large and deeper than many realize. And for good or ill, Trump is not going away in this election, and anyone who thinks today's events change anything significant is fooling him/herself.
A few things...
1) Those who support Trump when he runs into legal issues are all MAGA. He's not gaining support among the demographics and swing states he needs as a result of the legal issues. No poll is showing that. All of the swing states are very much in doubt, and most lean Biden.
2) Whether it stands up on appeal doesn't prevent collection efforts, unless Trump files a bond that is 1 1/2 times the amount of the judgment. That's around $120 million. Doubtful he's going to be able to obtain a bond in that amount, IMO. So while I think the judge gave him plenty of appellate points, that judgment is a big problem for him.
3) Could Trump win? It is a possibility of course. The question is, is it likely? Sorry, just not seeing that. When it comes down to a binary choice, it's highly doubtful that even those who are unhappy with Biden will pull the trigger for Trump. Polls sometimes send a message to the candidate you support, telling him you are unhappy with the job he's done. But when push comes to shove, it's highly doubtful the Biden supporters will be voting for Trump this time around. Trump hasn't won anything since 2016, and he's far less popular now than he was then.
4) Trump's problem isn't the federal cases as much as the state cases, IMO, which will not be held in limbo.
