Its not that I want to allow Russia to take Ukraine.

I want a peace deal and I want Russia to adapt to the west without war through diplomacy. You guys want to annihilate Russia because its simpler or because you have fears about Russia. Honestly if that's your position then logically you should advocate for a direct hot war with Russia so that this never becomes a problem again...but for whatever reason, you don't agree and you're perfectly aligned with a forever war mentality.

The risks of this war is too much money being spent, we don't have the ammunitions or development to handle it. It goes on far too long. It gets out of control and ultimately because war is evil and not the only avenue to pursue.
I want Russia beaten because they don't know diplomacy, don't respect anyone showing weakness, and will never ally or adapt with the West unless and until they are truly humbled on the world stage.
Russia will fall back, build themselves back up and go right back to doing the same things perpetually.

Those things warrant a direct hot war where the west destroys Russia to the extent that they can never recover. How ya'll have these opinions of Russia but won't outright call for a hot war seems like you're not willing to put your money where your mouth is. You're aligned with a forever war attitude.

Seems to me your actual solution is WW3 so this isn't a persistent problem.

How do you know for a fact that Ukraine will defeat Russia?
There's a latent false dilemma in your premise. It will not take Western involvement to defeat Russia. Ukraine can defeat Russia by simply outlasting them (thanks to Western support for Ukraine).

Russia has collapsed with armies in the field before......
Im talking about destruction of all of Russia. Meaning attacking every major area of their country and seizing total control.

Ukraine can't do that.
No one is talking the destruction of all Russia. Just staying within their borders would be a start. Allowing other Nations to decide what they want to do would be another. Two VERY EASY, cheap things.
If it's so easy, why can't the US do it?
And where are we that we are not invited? We left Iraq, we have a base negotiated with the Iraqu Govt. We left Afghanistan even though they DIDN'T want us to go.

Russia was in a similar position, they had a lease with Ukraine. They were not losing their naval port. The comparison would be Yukosama, we have a lease. We didn't TAKE the province.

So, where are we that we are not wanted? Simple answer Sam, not some convaluted 1923 thing that morphed into a CIA thing that is really a black op crap. Simple answer. Where are we that they do not want us? Where haven't we left when asked?

I will start on my point, Phillipines is the best example, you think we wanted to give up Subic? If we were Russia or China, we would just take it. That is the difference.
For starters, we're supporting Ukraine's army and supplying its weapons. Do you think the Donbas wants to be attacked with those weapons? Or that Crimea wants to be invaded by that army?

As for the rest, it's hard to talk about America's covert/intelligence wars without talking about America's covert/intelligence wars.

Time is running out. Reality is approaching day by day.

Joe Biden and his handlers are dragging the US into war with the country possessing the most hydrogen bombs on the entire planet.

Drop the foolish the Rambo / video game mentality and tell your representatives to stop this insanity.
Awww, little Vlady, whose troops rape, kidnap, and murder Ukrainian women and children, got his feelings hurt . . . so sad . . . .

Has he blamed us for the terrorist attacks yet?
You just can't be this stupid.

Can you not connect the dots and evaluate where this could lead ?

Just how long before the Russian people demand an attack on US targets ?

If the Mexican drug cartels were killing US civilians with Russian supplied and Russian guided missiles.....
just how long would the US president wait for a response ?

Cry me a river. There will be no U.S./Russia war. Lil' Vlady's losing control of his country, so he resorts to the old Soviet strategy of blaming the U.S.
So you ignore the obvious comparison, past US history and the geo political realities and merely respond with the juvenile.......

Good grief you are certainly stupid.

Cry me a river was directed at Lil' Vlady, not you. He's no different than any other dictator in history. Punch him in the mouth, and he cries. But, I disagree with you. There is zero chance of a U.S./Russia war.
I really hope our leaders are smarter than this. But I doubt it.

First, not sure where you're getting your numbers.

https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/russia-plans-huge-defence-spending-hike-2024-bloomberg-2023-09-22/

"Russia plans a huge hike in defence spending next year, swelling to 6% of gross domestic product (GDP), up from 3.9% in 2023 and 2.7% in 2021, Bloomberg News reported on Friday.
Reuters could not immediately verfiy the report. Moscow doubled its target for defence spending in 2023 to more than $100 billion, Reuters reported exclusively in August, as the costs of the war in Ukraine spiral and place growing strain on Moscow's finances."

Second, even if it has doubled from there to 15%, in mid 2024 there's a big difference between ramping up defense spending for a war of conquest and an unplanned hike in it in the face of a possible confrontation with NATO and terrorist attacks on your territory by your enemy raising the specter of having to fully capture and demilitarize its territory.

The pattern of defense spending by Russia does not support the "Stalin's tanks are going to roll through Poland!" fearmongering.
the only fear mongering going on is by the ones who are insisting support for Ukraine is going to get us all nuked.

Putin thought he could roll thru Ukraine. If we'd let him, he'd think he could roll thru Moldova, then Romania, then, etc..... Sure, he can't win those fights, but then, he can't "win" in Ukraine either. LOOK AT WHAT IT'S COSTING UKRAINE, RUSSIA, AND NATO to demonstrate to Putin that Russia cannot win in Ukraine.

The concerns about Russian imperialism have relatively little to do with the prospects of defeating it.
The concerns about Russian imperialism are mostly about the COSTS of defeating it.
It's way, way, way, way......cheaper to defeat it in Ukraine than anywhere else.
Except that Russia is winning in Ukraine. This was clear to any astute observer a year ago. At this point it's probably clear even to Biden.

.]
I read the articles and agree with a lot of them, but what do you mean by illegally occupying? Illegal according to what, and how do you define occupy, a term that has taken on all sorts of meanings?

The simplest thing would be to ask if the sovereign government of a Nation has asked another power to leave its territory.

In this case the Government of Syria (that has been around since 1963) and that still controls 65% of the country and is recognized by the majority of States on earth has asked the USA to leave.

Posting troops in areas under the control of Syrian rebels against the Assad regime is not "occupying
anything. It is a basing right done with the concurrence of the current de facto ruling authority (rebels) in order to deter ISIS and Syrian forces from destabilizing a number of friendly countries, notably Jordan and Israel, and also frustrate Russian and Iranian efforts to support the Assad regime.

Even Al Jazeera doesn't make the "occupy" claim....

Not sure if being invited in by rebel groups would meet the standards of international law.

The real Syrian government in Damascus feels about that situation the way DC would have felt if English troops landed during our civil war and started building bases

Yes

C. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians were EXECUTED by Stalin in the 1940's following WW2 for 'collaborating' with the Germans.

Your argument presumes only de jure government matters. In reality, de facto government matters as well. In a stable country, the two are synonymous. In a place like Syria, they are not. As your graphic shows, there is no central authority in Syria at all. It's a failed state. Pretty much anyone can do anything they want. Russia has basing rights in Tartus and strongly supports the Assad regime. Is Russia occupying Syria? No. Why? Because having a basing right does not equal "occupation."

We have bases all over the world. We have bases in Japan. Are we an occupying force there? No. We were. Now we are not. What's the difference? It's about the question of who's running the country. The Japanese are running Japan, de jure and de facto. They allow us to stay. Rinse & repeat all over Europe (Nato bases). My daughter is not "occupying" Italy. She is running a mobility unit that delivers the US Army "speedbump" ((US Army brigade QRF), from an Italian Air Force base, with the permission of the Italian government. All personnel and cargo has to be cleared with Italian customs officials. Now, that clearance is pro forma, as our presence there and missions are pursuant to an alliance to which Italy is a part. but it is still Italy, under control of Italians.

We have very small bases in Syria with the concurrence of the de facto ruling authority. That is not occupation. That is involvement in a support role (keeping the Kurdish insurgents in the game) in a theater of WWIII, where we are ensuring a Russian ally does not consolidate power. Instability in Syria is a direct threat to Russian presence in the Mediterranean. They've already lost the most important parts of their now mission-incapable Black Sea fleet. They lose Tartus, they lose a long list of things that matter greatly to them - a base on the south flank of a Nato member (Turkey), ability to conduct regular naval patrols all along the southern flank of Nato (Mediterranean Sea), ability to protect their own trade links with North Africa (a major customer for ag products), ability to project power into the Red Sea and Persian Gulf, and on & on.....

But now, somehow, someway Ukraine is worth billions of dollars ( we have to borrow to provide) and worth risking nuclear war ( that no one on this free message board is willing to fight )

there is no US "action" without Putin's own actions. It's his own damn fault.

A. It is not Putin's sole responsibility. Only a simpleton or John Wayne impersonator could fail to comprehend the political, economic and military actions of the United States in Ukraine prior to the Russian invasion.

B. MILLIONS of Ukrainians starved to death in the 1930's due to Stalin 's collectivization of Ukrainian farms.

The United States did nothing.

C. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians were EXECUTED by Stalin in the 1940's following WW2 for 'collaborating' with the Germans.

The United States did nothing.

D. So doesn't it make you wonder why NOW is the United States providing BILLIONS of dollars we have to BORROW just to give it to Ukraine ? Why NOW is the United States willing to risk war with Russia by providing missiles and other weapons which are being employed on RUSSIAN CIVILIANS ?

E. And we are all comfortable and confident that these actions of the United States are well thought out and risks property evaluated by our president and Commander in Chief….JOE BIDEN ?

An old man in his 80's who is showing obvious signs of dementia on a weekly basis ?

But magically this guy can lead the US safely in a proxy war with the Russian people ?

Insanity

Missiles haven't been deployed on Russian civilians you idiot. The one you are fretting over was a missile that was hit by air defense missiles. ATACMS don't miss this badly....

You just might be the only poster dumber than Waco47. Four Russian civilians were killed as a result of a Ukrainian missile attack using American supplied, possibly American guided weapons.

An obvious escalation of a war brought on in part by the oldest president in American history. A president with obvious signs of dementia.

But for some unknown reason this same old man has your blind faith in his ability to safely fight a proxy war.

Russia is winning so hard in Ukraine that the Dagestanis are revolting, and they're about to have North Korean soldiers join the war because they need more fresh meat to send to the grinder. This is aggy level delusional.

Can you not connect the dots and evaluate where this could lead ?

Just how long before the Russian people demand an attack on US targets ?

If the Mexican drug cartels were killing US civilians with Russian supplied and Russian guided missiles.....
just how long would the US president wait for a response ?

so he can launch missiles at apartment buildings, markets, malls, hospitals, kidnap 100k children, rape tens of thousands of women, but something the US didn't even do is the US's fault. You're an absolute idiot if you can't see this is not our fault.

Yes

It's a brilliant idea to supply missiles for another country to use in killing the civilians of a nuclear power with whom we are not at war with.

Yet

Just how long do you really believe Putin is going to tolerate US actions ? Another month or year ?

Just how many Russian civilians need to die before the political realities force Putin's hand ?

And try to focus ……..we are risking all this on behalf of a country the US has never considered vital to its strategic defense.

An old man who can barely speak, freezes in place, and can not remember what he did even a week ago ?

But magically this guy can lead the US safely in a proxy war with the Russian people ?

Insanity

Missiles haven't been deployed on Russian civilians you idiot. The one you are fretting over was a missile that was hit by air defense missiles. ATACMS don't miss this badly....

You obviously are a U.S. shill . . . . Russia, as always, has it exactly right . . . our special operators were on the ground in both Ukraine and Russia intentionally guiding those bombs to the beach. And Nuland definitely was involved, at least when she wasn't down in Bolivia leading the military "coup" . . . .
The missiles were carrying cluster bombs, which are designed for use against personnel. There was no reason to fire them into the area of Sevastopol except to terrorize civilians. The same goes for Belgorod, where the Ukrainians have used small, unguided rockets to saturate neighborhoods for no legitimate reason. Such war crimes are all too typical of the Zelensky regime.

LOL. I have zero faith in some old man. I hate Biden more than 99% of the people in this country. You, on the other hand, have no idea what you're talking about regarding weaponry and what is going on here.

Suspect I have more first hand experience with military hardware than most.

If Russian civilian casualties continue to pile up due to the use of American supplied munitions…..Putin will have no real choice but to retaliate. The Russian people will demand it.

This should be obvious to anyone.

This is part of why Russia moved into the Kharkiv region. Ukraine has been firing rockets across the border at civilians for months.
I know.

And American troops have been in Ukraine for at least the last few months. Surprised there has not already been a major 'incident'.

I feel like a Berlin resident in 1939.

Hating Hitler, fully aware he is leading my country into a nightmare step by step...,..yet powerless to stop the process.
And the people telling us there's no risk of escalation are the same people who told us Ukraine would smash Russian defenses and take over Crimea last spring...or last summer...or last fall...or maybe in 2025. We're supposed to trust them when they've yet to get anything right. With Biden in his condition, who knows who's even calling the shots?

Scary times.

Has been since the 1700s

Not doubt part of the reason for this war.

Russia does not want to give up its strategic base on the Black Sea

NATO (DC) would love to deprive them of that.

None of which means anything unless there happens to be a large number of troops standing around in the open waiting to get hit. If they wanted to take out an army or navy base, they'd use high explosives.

["It's clear that Farage's assessment of the Ukraine situation has long been premised on a currently unfashionable realist understanding of geopolitics, while Robinson's hews to the liberal internationalism currently dominant in American officialdom and its global outposts," Mary Harrington wrote for Unherd.

She's right. Farage earlier partially blamed the expansion of NATO and the EU in a BBC interview as a causal variable that led to the war in Ukraine (among others) and has since been under fire from the British press. Farage is, of course, also right. The statement and the theory are neither controversial nor new. Only imbeciles who don't understand the concept of a "security dilemma" will reject NATO and EU expansion as a causal factor. The evidence is practically undeniable.

No one, who for the first time in their life both voted for Brexit and then Boris Johnson, from broken middle England towns such as Mansfield and Chesterfield, cares enough about Mariupol or Chernigov in Ukraine, much less be animated to die for them. England shares no land border with Russia. The Russian tanks don't threaten the English meadows. They cannot even cross Kiev, or Poland, or Germany, or France, Belgium and Netherlands, to threaten a sea-borne invasion of the sceptered isles. The Russian navy chugs smoke denser than that of a Manchester chimney during the industrial revolution. There's no strategic threat to Britain from Russia.

The British opposition to Russia can be neatly divided into two instincts. First, a masturbatory liberal internationalism that cares more about faraway borders and people than about their own. Second, a narrow realpolitik which sees this war as a way to tie America in as a power enhancer and keep the EU divided and the Germans down. The second instinct is laudable but shortsighted. True realism would dictate an understanding of whither the money and power is shifting. Eastern Europe is out; Asia in. And yet Britain keeps bizarrely focused on "seeking monsters to destroy" in Europe, much more than the American realist right itself.]

An obvious escalation of a war brought on in part by the oldest president in American history. A president with obvious signs of dementia.

But for some unknown reason this same old man has your blind faith in his ability to safely fight a proxy war.

With Biden in his condition, who knows who's even calling the shots?

Scary times.

Scary indeed.

The same guy who is routinely displaying the affects of dementia is our Commander in Chief. This same guy is in charge of our entire military apparatus and has the final say in our foreign policies.

Yet many of our same posters who are acutely aware of Biden's condition are blissfully unconcerned or even confident of his decisions in regards to this bloody proxy year in Europe.

Unbelievably our media does not connect the dots for our people and as a result millions of Americans are going to vote for the oldest president in history to get another four year term.

The BBC is reporting that 4 Russian civilians ( including 2 children ) were killed and 150 wounded by US made missiles launched by Ukraine.

Russia is claiming US specialists operated the missiles and that they were guided by US satellites.

Putin reportedly has promised a ' response '.

If the Mexican drug cartels were killing US civilians with Russian supplied and Russian guided missiles.....
just how long would the US president wait for a response ?

so he can launch missiles at apartment buildings, markets, malls, hospitals, kidnap 100k children, rape tens of thousands of women, but something the US didn't even do is the US's fault.

An old man who can barely speak, freezes in place, and can not remember what he did even a week ago ?

But magically this guy can lead the US safely in a proxy war with the Russian people ?

and the shape-shifter others pin their hopes on will likely maintain or accelerate the status quo re:Ukraine. 90% of the reason Putin invaded when he did was perceived US/Biden weakness/disinterest following the withdrawal debacle in Afghanistan. Trump was one that actually expedited arming ukraine. He ain't gonna stop. He'll likely ramp it up to "show who's boss"

But I don't expect trump will be elected because he'll make some or many idiotic off the cuff remarks that'll sink his dumb ass, again, before he even gets the chance to swim.

Why Won't The US Help Negotiate A Peaceful End To The War In Ukraine?

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/why-wont-us-help-negotiate-peaceful-end-war-ukraine

"For the fifth time since 2008, Russia has proposed to negotiate with the U.S. over security arrangements, this time in proposals made by President Vladimir Putin on June 14, 2024. Four previous times, the U.S. rejected the offer of negotiations in favor of a neocon strategy to weaken or dismember Russia through war and covert operations.

The U.S. neocon tactics have failed disastrously, devastating Ukraine in the process, and endangering the whole world.

After all the warmongering, it's time for Biden to open negotiations for peace with Russia..."

Or retreat or deescalate. There are other options.

And what the Russian people demand or want doesn't matter in an autocracy like Putin's. That should be obvious.
