For starters, we're supporting Ukraine's army and supplying its weapons. Do you think the Donbas wants to be attacked with those weapons? Or that Crimea wants to be invaded by that army?FLBear5630 said:And where are we that we are not invited? We left Iraq, we have a base negotiated with the Iraqu Govt. We left Afghanistan even though they DIDN'T want us to go.Sam Lowry said:If it's so easy, why can't the US do it?FLBear5630 said:No one is talking the destruction of all Russia. Just staying within their borders would be a start. Allowing other Nations to decide what they want to do would be another. Two VERY EASY, cheap things.Doc Holliday said:Im talking about destruction of all of Russia. Meaning attacking every major area of their country and seizing total control.whiterock said:There's a latent false dilemma in your premise. It will not take Western involvement to defeat Russia. Ukraine can defeat Russia by simply outlasting them (thanks to Western support for Ukraine).Doc Holliday said:Russia will fall back, build themselves back up and go right back to doing the same things perpetually.trey3216 said:I want Russia beaten because they don't know diplomacy, don't respect anyone showing weakness, and will never ally or adapt with the West unless and until they are truly humbled on the world stage.Doc Holliday said:
Its not that I want to allow Russia to take Ukraine.
I want a peace deal and I want Russia to adapt to the west without war through diplomacy. You guys want to annihilate Russia because its simpler or because you have fears about Russia. Honestly if that's your position then logically you should advocate for a direct hot war with Russia so that this never becomes a problem again...but for whatever reason, you don't agree and you're perfectly aligned with a forever war mentality.
The risks of this war is too much money being spent, we don't have the ammunitions or development to handle it. It goes on far too long. It gets out of control and ultimately because war is evil and not the only avenue to pursue.
Those things warrant a direct hot war where the west destroys Russia to the extent that they can never recover. How ya'll have these opinions of Russia but won't outright call for a hot war seems like you're not willing to put your money where your mouth is. You're aligned with a forever war attitude.
Seems to me your actual solution is WW3 so this isn't a persistent problem.
How do you know for a fact that Ukraine will defeat Russia?
Russia has collapsed with armies in the field before......
Ukraine can't do that.
Russia was in a similar position, they had a lease with Ukraine. They were not losing their naval port. The comparison would be Yukosama, we have a lease. We didn't TAKE the province.
So, where are we that we are not wanted? Simple answer Sam, not some convaluted 1923 thing that morphed into a CIA thing that is really a black op crap. Simple answer. Where are we that they do not want us? Where haven't we left when asked?
I will start on my point, Phillipines is the best example, you think we wanted to give up Subic? If we were Russia or China, we would just take it. That is the difference.

Except that Russia is winning in Ukraine. This was clear to any astute observer a year ago. At this point it's probably clear even to Biden.whiterock said:the only fear mongering going on is by the ones who are insisting support for Ukraine is going to get us all nuked.Realitybites said:
First, not sure where you're getting your numbers.
https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/russia-plans-huge-defence-spending-hike-2024-bloomberg-2023-09-22/
"Russia plans a huge hike in defence spending next year, swelling to 6% of gross domestic product (GDP), up from 3.9% in 2023 and 2.7% in 2021, Bloomberg News reported on Friday.
Reuters could not immediately verfiy the report. Moscow doubled its target for defence spending in 2023 to more than $100 billion, Reuters reported exclusively in August, as the costs of the war in Ukraine spiral and place growing strain on Moscow's finances."
Second, even if it has doubled from there to 15%, in mid 2024 there's a big difference between ramping up defense spending for a war of conquest and an unplanned hike in it in the face of a possible confrontation with NATO and terrorist attacks on your territory by your enemy raising the specter of having to fully capture and demilitarize its territory.
The pattern of defense spending by Russia does not support the "Stalin's tanks are going to roll through Poland!" fearmongering.
Putin thought he could roll thru Ukraine. If we'd let him, he'd think he could roll thru Moldova, then Romania, then, etc..... Sure, he can't win those fights, but then, he can't "win" in Ukraine either. LOOK AT WHAT IT'S COSTING UKRAINE, RUSSIA, AND NATO to demonstrate to Putin that Russia cannot win in Ukraine.
The concerns about Russian imperialism have relatively little to do with the prospects of defeating it.
The concerns about Russian imperialism are mostly about the COSTS of defeating it.
It's way, way, way, way......cheaper to defeat it in Ukraine than anywhere else.
He would never attack Europe in an aggressive war of conquest. I never suggested that he wouldn't defend or retaliate against attacks by the West.sombear said:Please explain. The simplest thing would be to ask if the sovereign government of a Nation has asked another power to leave its territory.
In this case the Government of Syria (that has been around since 1963) and that still controls 65% of the country and is recognized by the majority of States on earth has asked the USA to leave.
Posting troops in areas under the control of Syrian rebels against the Assad regime is not "occupying

It is a basing right done with the concurrence of the current de facto ruling authority (rebels) in order to deter ISIS and Syrian forces from destabilizing a number of friendly countries, notably Jordan and Israel, and also frustrate Russian and Iranian efforts to support the Assad regime.

Your argument presumes only de jure government matters. In reality, de facto government matters as well. In a stable country, the two are synonymous. In a place like Syria, they are not. As your graphic shows, there is no central authority in Syria at all. It's a failed state. Pretty much anyone can do anything they want. Russia has basing rights in Tartus and strongly supports the Assad regime. Is Russia occupying Syria? No. Why? Because having a basing right does not equal "occupation."Redbrickbear said:whiterock said:Redbrickbear said:sombear said:I read the articles and agree with a lot of them, but what do you mean by illegally occupying? Yes
It's a brilliant idea to supply missiles for another country to use in killing the civilians of a nuclear power with whom we are not at war with.
Yet
Just how long do you really believe Putin is going to tolerate US actions ? Another month or year ?
Just how many Russian civilians need to die before the political realities force Putin's hand ?
And try to focus ……..we are risking all this on behalf of a country the US has never considered vital to its strategic defense.
But now, somehow, someway Ukraine is worth billions of dollars ( we have to borrow to provide) and worth risking nuclear war ( that no one on this free message board is willing to fight )
A. It is not Putin's sole responsibility. Only a simpleton or John Wayne impersonator could fail to comprehend the political, economic and military actions of the United States in Ukraine prior to the Russian invasion.
B. MILLIONS of Ukrainians starved to death in the 1930's due to Stalin 's collectivization of Ukrainian farms.
The United States did nothing.
C. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians were EXECUTED by Stalin in the 1940's following WW2 for 'collaborating' with the Germans.
The United States did nothing.
D. So doesn't it make you wonder why NOW is the United States providing BILLIONS of dollars we have to BORROW just to give it to Ukraine ? Why NOW is the United States willing to risk war with Russia by providing missiles and other weapons which are being employed on RUSSIAN CIVILIANS ?
E. And we are all comfortable and confident that these actions of the United States are well thought out and risks property evaluated by our president and Commander in Chief….JOE BIDEN ?

But for some unknown reason this same old man has your blind faith in his ability to safely fight a proxy war.
Russia is winning so hard in Ukraine that the Dagestanis are revolting, and they're about to have North Korean soldiers join the war because they need more fresh meat to send to the grinder. This is aggy level delusional.Sam Lowry said:Except that Russia is winning in Ukraine.

The missiles were carrying cluster bombs, which are designed for use against personnel. There was no reason to fire them into the area of Sevastopol except to terrorize civilians. The same goes for Belgorod, where the Ukrainians have used small, unguided rockets to saturate neighborhoods for no legitimate reason.
An old man in his 80's who is showing obvious signs of dementia on a weekly basis ?

But magically this guy can lead the US safely in a proxy war with the Russian people ?

The BBC is reporting that 4 Russian civilians ( including 2 children ) were killed and 150 wounded by US made missiles launched by Ukraine.
Russia is claiming US specialists operated the missiles and that they were guided by US satellites.
Putin reportedly has promised a ' response '.
Time is running out. Reality is approaching day by day.
Joe Biden and his handlers are dragging the US into war with the country possessing the most hydrogen bombs on the entire planet.
Drop the foolish the Rambo / video game mentality and tell your representatives to stop this insanity.
Has he blamed us for the terrorist attacks yet?
Can you not connect the dots and evaluate where this could lead ?
Just how long before the Russian people demand an attack on US targets ?
If the Mexican drug cartels were killing US civilians with Russian supplied and Russian guided missiles.....
just how long would the US president wait for a response ?
An old man in his 80's who is showing obvious signs of dementia on a weekly basis ?
An old man who can barely speak, freezes in place, and can not remember what he did even a week ago ?
But magically this guy can lead the US safely in a proxy war with the Russian people ?
InsanityRussian air defense reportedly shot down an ATACMS cluster munitions variant in occupied Sevastopol 2 days ago. The amount of submunitions hitting the water/beach and how they are dispersed (wider than usual) seems to confirm the missile was downed.

An obvious escalation of a war brought on in part by the oldest president in American history. A president with obvious signs of dementia.
But for some unknown reason this same old man has your blind faith in his ability to safely fight a proxy war.
Suspect I have more first hand experience with military hardware than most.
If Russian civilian casualties continue to pile up due to the use of American supplied munitions…..Putin will have no real choice but to retaliate. The Russian people will demand it.
This should be obvious to anyone.
And American troops have been in Ukraine for at least the last few months. Surprised there has not already been a major 'incident'.
I feel like a Berlin resident in 1939.
Hating Hitler, fully aware he is leading my country into a nightmare step by step...,..yet powerless to stop the process.
Scary times.
Scary indeed.
The same guy who is routinely displaying the affects of dementia is our Commander in Chief. This same guy is in charge of our entire military apparatus and has the final say in our foreign policies.
Yet many of our same posters who are acutely aware of Biden's condition are blissfully unconcerned or even confident of his decisions in regards to this bloody proxy year in Europe.
Unbelievably our media does not connect the dots for our people and as a result millions of Americans are going to vote for the oldest president in history to get another four year term.
Or retreat or deescalate. There are other options.KaiBear said:trey3216 said:LOL. I have zero faith in some old man. I hate Biden more than 99% of the people in this country.
