Trump lowing the boom on President Borat.

Kissing putin's ass is no better. Regan is rolling over his grave right now.

Reagan hated Communists....not Russians

He would probably be cleaning out the nest of radical Leftists at the USAID and in DC

While he tried to recruit Russian Nationalists away from China so he could confront the Communists in Beijing (the real danger to the USA's long term interests)
Reagan hated Communists and didn't trust Russians. Big difference.

What is there to Trust?

If they get the ethnic russians areas of Donbas and Crimea (areas Kyiv can't retake)

And Central and Western Ukraine get to join the EU (areas Moscow can not take)

Then no trust is needed....its a good deal...and the only one that makes sense

Because as soon as 'talks' are over, Russia will try again to take the entire nation. And it looks like nothing will be done about that, just like nothing was done about Russia annexing in '14 then invading in '22 (which some of y'all still think wasn't an attempt to completely envelope the country)

No. If NATO peacekeepers is now a nonstarter as Russia is publicly proclaiming, then Trump will be trusting that Russia won't invade again. That, of course, would be a massive mistake.

Not to mention, there will need to be trust on all the underlying economic and geopolitical terms that are involved but have not been publicized.

Bottom-line, it appears as if very little in an agreement will be backed by security guarantees. Trust will be most of it unfortunately. This is why some important American companies are reluctant to jump in.

If they step over the line then the proxy war starts again

So return to the status quo antebellum (the proxy war is back on)

A war that is costing russia hundreds of thousands of men (dead & wounded)......billions in lost equipment....sanctions hurting their economy and turning them dependent on China....and a war that has them at a standstill

I seriously doubt they want that....and I very much imagine they want out of this conflict with some kind of face saving option (AKA keeping Crimea and Donbas)

At one point were were paying for their entire Civil Service, power, and God knows what else

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/following-american-money-in-ukraine-60-minutes/

[As the war in Ukraine grinds toward its third year, America has provided more than $70 billion in aid, with billions going not just toward the military, but also to help farmers, subsidize small businesses and pay the country's first responders.

The U.S. has played a critical role in bankrolling Ukraine's fight for survival since Russia invaded on Feb. 24, 2022.]

Unfortunately, what is happening in Ukraine is not an isolated incident.

Estonia is running plays out of the same playbook.

Estonia demands Orthodox Church to change its name, then refuses to register new name

https://orthochristian.com/167308.html
Because the head of the Russian Orthodox Church is literally the equivalent of 2nd in line at the CIA. Dude is a GRU stooge doing extra time as the head of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Always interested in what you want these poor guys to do?

In Ukraine, Estonia, other countries....these are independent churches that are only de jure (not de facto) under the Canonical territory of the Patriarch of Russia

They can't force him to give them a tomos of acrocephaly or cancel his official/historic canonical territory....but they have moved far away from his personal control.

[Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (EOC MP; is a semi-autonomous church in the canonical jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Moscow

This church numbers roughly 150,000 faithful in 31 congregations and is the largest Eastern Orthodox church in Estonia

On August 20, 2024 the church declared unilaterally their autocephaly. A request to legally change their name to "Estonian Christian Orthodox Church" (Estonian: Eesti Kristlik igeusu Kiri) was denied]
My point is, I don't care if these churches are trying to break away from Russian Orthodoxy, nor do I care if they get a tomos or hand job of approval from the Russian Orthodoxy for that matter.

You don't seem to care much about freedom of Religion either.

Something the Europeans are proving again and again....that free speech and freedom of religion seem to stop at the Atlantic

The Europeans have more in common with the Russians than they think....

I 100% care about freedom of religion, but I cannot do anything about the 175 or so countries in the world who don't have that explicitly laid out in their founding documents like we do.

Yea I guess the USA is powerless to exert any influence on these euro-crat authoritarians

If these numbers are accurate the US has been played for suckers for a very long time.

I posted something similar years ago, but timing is good for a repost. I work for one of the O&G majors. We of course operate all over the world. I cannot stand Moscow, and it has nothing to do with my political views. In fact, I wanted to like it, because my wife's family are Russian immigrants.

But setting my views aside, our company studies all international assignments. One thing we do is track employee satisfaction relative to where they live and work. We consider many factors, but one of the more interesting is comparing expectations before an assignment with sentiment after the assignment. Keep in mind we operate in some truly awful place to live, but also some of the nicest. Think the worst of Africa and the Middle East, but also places like Paris, London, Berlin, Singapore, Australia, Buenos Aires.

Anyway, out of hundreds of areas we operate and send employees, Moscow ranked very near the bottom, having one of the widest gaps between expectations and post-assignment sentiment. In fact, even just plain overall approvals, it ranked far lower than most would expect.

Bottom line, those that say they'd want to live in Moscow really wouldn't want to . . . regardless of what Tucker Carlson says . . . .

Very cool. I've tried 10 times to learn French, but my brain is just not wired for foreign language. I struggled through Spanish, and its pronunciation makes sense to an English speaker. My favorite game is riding the trains and trying to figure out how and why the station name as pronounced is spelled like it is.

great to hear. You buy your passport as I'm fairly sure you don't have one and I will pay for a 1 way ticket to Moscow for you. Meanwhile, I'll go to Paris. (I've lived there). Have you been to Berlin, Moscow, London or Paris?
I would love to visit Moscow. A friend did - he said it was the only place he's ever been with virtually no English - that was a long time ago, but I doubt it has gotten more English friendly in 15 years. I cannot imagine any city better than Paris.
Moscow is great to visit. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Wouldn't live there, though. Paris is hard to beat from my experience. Lived there almost 2 yrs in an apartment and operated like a local...learned the language, no English menus , kids had to speak French (13 and 14), rode the Metro everywhere. Met friends. daily shopping at different markets as they rotate by day. And no, like many on this board would, I did not order "Freedom Fries"! lol

Bottom line, those that say they'd want to live in Moscow really wouldn't want to . . . regardless of what Tucker Carlson says . . . .

America was undoubtedly the greatest country to live in 20-30 years ago... but is it still the greatest today?

Are things going in a positive direction?

Or is this country going backwards?

Are we one election away from becoming Mexico?
I travel the world and love it. But there is nowhere else I'd rather live, not even close. I say a prayer and thank God every time I touch back on U.S. soil.

You're ****ing crazy.

And some of you have never sniffed an actual 3rd world country or have any idea how China or Russia operates domestically.

Is America still a 1st world country?

Do we still have a middle class?

How would you define "middle class" in 2025?
Not to be a dick, but America is by definition a First World country.

It would have seemed a ridiculous thing to ask a couple decades ago... but I think it's worth debating in 2025.

The average age of new home owners in America is 40.

Americans net worth on average has been shrinking while cost of living has been increasing.

If you dont have a 7 figure net worth are you still "middle class" in America?

What seperates a 1st world country from a 2nd world country isn't a lack of rich people... its lack of a middle class.

Mexico has rich people with ungodly wealth.... and of the rest of the population lives on less than $1000 USD a month.

But would you rather live in America circa 1995 or America today?

The reason I am asking these questions is bcs the Slava Ukraini guys who support sending half a trillion dollars overseas in a 4 year timespan seem to think America is wealthier and more powerful than it's ever been...

Back in the 90ties, the government was spending a small fraction of what it spends today and it actually had a budget surplus for several years...

Most of us were alive in the 90ties... did this country feel more wealthy then than it does today?

Wrong, what separates 1st world is a lack of poverty. You're griping about 1st world struggles, when others deal with clean drinking water, food scarcity, and disease. Even Russia deals with this. In fact Moscow, even with its own issues (not a fan of it), is a pleasant veneer to what actually happens in the hundreds of villages and towns around the country.

So the assertion of the US being similar to any of these places, especially when you get to third world is asinine.
