Facts are facts. Gaetz/Boebert represent a larger slice of the GOP than you do. Certainly a larger slice than the last three Speakers we've had. The new speaker seems to be quite a bit of an improvement over the last one. His speech yesterday was spectacular, inspiring. The word "Presidential" actually came to mind as I listened. Lets see if he can live up to it. I suspect he will do a far better job of it than the last one. If so, then you should thank Mr. Gaetz for having the courage to pull the plug on the dysfunction of the last one, who said all the right things, too, but delivered a disappointing mid-term outcome followed by a $1.7T deficit and a civil war within his caucus.

In the section regarding who has privileges on the House floor, the rules allow only House members and select staff, Senate members and select staff, the governor and select staff, the lieutenant governor, the secretary of state, accredited media, certain election contestants, and family members of members "on such special occasions as may be determined."
The attorney general is not specifically listed as someone who has privileges to be on the House floor.
A strong leader would have avoided the trap, let it pass until the end of the day, then pulled aside the members who extended the invitation, explained the rules, told them not do it again or face sanction and then followed up with instructions to House Security staff to not allow floor entry to any other state official not on the privilege list.
But Phelan couldn't resist. Picked the confrontation as offered. Looks the smaller man.

What we need most is House leadership who can move on from a mistake (an exceedingly poorly calculated and executed impeachment process) and get to the business of enacting GOP platform items into law, instead of engaging in distraction ploys to stop the school choice issue. Dude has made an enemy of every other statewide elected official and some very large donors, purely to satisfy the other side of the aisle.

Shouldn't a Speaker know who won the last election?
Certainly a larger slice than the last three Speakers we've had. At some point, leadership has to attend to the wants/needs of the party base. If Republicans are in the minority, what happens? Who will you blame?
Otherwise....well, look at the last few days. It's not like the GOP crazies are hard to please. They just want to spend less money, defend rather than undermine traditional values, and take care of hearth & home rather than building nations of others. Real crazy, huh. All it takes is votes
