Trump, Elon and Vivek finding out that some portion of the maga group was not just against the rampant illegal immigration being allowed at the border, but is instead against any immigration at all. And Elon is right, those blood and soil types cannot be allowed to dictate any policy whatsoever.
No, the people who are against being replaced in their own country by cheaper immigrants are the ones on the right side of the debate. Just bc Elon, Vivek and other tech oligarchs want to flood us with Indians that will work for half the price and twice the hours doesnt mean they are right. The dems want to flood us with illegal foreigners and Elon wants to replace us with cheap quasi legal foreigners. Neither is good for the American middle class.
Productive legal immigration is good. Rampant illegal immigration is bad. It's pretty simple.

Without immigration at all, we will have a declining population very soon. Plus, I'm not scared of some Indian immigrants that will do good work cheap. The economy is not a pie to be carved up into pieces but rather a fire to stoke.
Additionally, most of the techs from California would bring faaaar left, woke politics with them. You don't have to worry about that with the H1 visa holders. We don't want Woke in Texas!

I think the Democrats have been surprised at the extent to which immigrants (especially legal immigrants - see Starr County) are going right.

No kidding. It showed in the election that Hispanics are more interested in family than letting boys wave their weenies in their girls bathrooms

From what I have seen, the biggest issue is with those that either cannot communicate or don't like to play a communication role. The H1's are good technically, but are not good at the nuance of business. For the most part, they play technical roles, but it is like computers in that they are proficient at doing what they are told and have good tech skill, but it is difficult to find those that can lead a project. If you want to protect yourself, sharpen your project management skills if you are in the tech field. If you are just looking to work on plan sets, you will be replaced either through out sourcing or H1.

I remember when we outsourced to India. The sales pitch was they worked while we slept (night/day thing, not laziness). It did not work, it add time and confusing. H1 is allowing them to bring the labor here to control it better. So, at the end of the day either it is done here or India (example). Learn how to communicate and get comfortable doing it, that is the skill set that can't be shipped in or out sourced.

This is why I hate h-1b. It is abused. I have seen it first hand way too much. Needs to be ENDED. For every 10 that are needed, there are probably 1000 that are an abuse of the system. I'm 100% against them.

I never find myself against Whiterock in here... this is a 1st for me. (Still my favorite poster).

I think it is entirely possible (and even probable) that H1B needs some reformation, probably as part of an overhaul of the entire system.

But we also need to be welcoming productive legal immigration.

Abbott kicked it down to cities and school district property taxes. The net is property taxes are still high and Musk becomes richer.

lol, thats the way it has worked long before Abbott was governor. Localities give businesses tax breaks and pass it on to the communities they serve all the time.

None of this is new and special

New or not Abbott kicked it tax problem down to the locals. Tax payers in those local taxing districts paid more in taxes and ultimately for the tax breaks given these companies. Meanwhile the rich get richer but the rest stay even or below.

That has nothing to do with Abbott. Completely controlled by local governmental authorities, as it always has been. There's nothing about could do about it even if he thought it was a problem.

Much better to have these issues sorted out by city/county people who are more directly accountable to those decisionmakers.

Abbott's legislature goals result in lower state level taxing and funding but it indeed kicks it down to the local level tax base which sustains infrastructure and schools. Abbot and GOP are starving public schools especially in rural and low income areas who are hard pressed to meet demands locally.

whatever you say..

The amount of money created into the local market from him building a 2 billion dollar plant with jobs is worth something.

The 17 billion samsung plant in Taylor/Elgin area makes Tesla look like chump change.

That such a reductionist, historically ignorant, and dunderheaded explanation of the Texas school finance system that it defies any reasonable attempt to discuss it.
