I said he was competent, not the best or even good. At the end of the day, he did work with Newt and sign the bill, the economy did boom and the budget was balanced. He did back off the Hilary stuff, he was an astute politician. Did some good work in Ireland and maintained the no-fly zone in Iraq.

it's always good to be suspicious of politicians, particularly the neverTrumpers, who have conflated two very different things - a successful program for legal NON-IMMIGRANT skilled workers vs illegal immigrants flowing across our southern border. H1b abuse is a minor issue, easily fixable; mass illegal immigration is a threat to the Republic.

I have no problem whatsoever if DOGE ends up benefitting the people working on DOGE, as long as it benefits everyone else, too. Reducing government spending, reducing regulatory overhead on businesses, reducing illegal immigration across our southern border, etc...... Those things will benefit everyone.

H1B is a NON-IMMIGRANT visa. It has a 6yr limit on stays.

H1B is a visitors visa for businesses to bring in talent it ostensibly cannot find here. It is in the same statutory category as the B1/B2 visa for visitors coming here for a short period of time on business trips or vacations.

Not exactly. US courts have traditionally ruled that laws/rights apply to everyone in their jurisdiction, regardless of citizenship or legal status. Ex: Miranda rights apply to an illegal who commits a crime just as much as they do to you and I. The difference is in the resolution of the case - if convicted, an illegal will typically be deported rather than incarcerated. Often, if allowed, they will waive deportation proceedings and return to avoid the prosecution (and deportation). Same applies for H1B workers. All workplace laws apply to them. The difference is that immigration laws apply to them, too, so they can be deported if they no longer qualify for the visa (commit a crime, get fired, etc.....)

As a rule of thumb around the world, one of the primary aims of immigration law is to protect the jobs of citizens, to ensure that no able bodied citizen loses his/her job to a non-citizen. Mitigating against that, immigration law also has to afford a pathway for businesses to deal with labor shortages. Most of the world manages that balance with a work permit program. We do not. We created a system that seeks to defend the perimeter, in no small part because before the age of air travel, the oceans were effective barriers to the vast majority of migration. Our law has not kept up with the times....and every time we attempt reforms of the system itself, we try to cram in amnesty provisions the American people at large are increasingly opposed to. it's become a rinse/repeat cycle every election, to the point where "immigration reform" is broadly understood by all parties to mean "mass amnesty" despite broad and rising American public support for mass deportations.

The current immigration debate has always been primarily the massive influx of illegals under Biden & Harris. We have 10-15 million illegals here who are uneducated & are a burden on our economy & society. Many are gang members, terrorists, members of the cartels, or otherwise dangerous resulting in a dramatic crime wave illustrated by the many tapes and murders that are reported. Imagine how many are not reported! The fascists in govt & media often try to cover them up just like they cover up the facts about trans crazies shooting up schools.

Our justice system is broken mainly because those in the Left who are in control of large parts of it aren't interested in justice. Instead they pervert it to promote their radical & unpopular political agenda. Unfettered immigration is part of that agenda which is why illegals are simply released when captured, even after committing violent crimes. If those in charge faced legal consequences for their frauds, cover ups, law fare, & other crimes others might think twice about repeating their abuses.

No, the people who are against being replaced in their own country by cheaper immigrants are the ones on the right side of the debate. Just bc Elon, Vivek and other tech oligarchs want to flood us with Indians that will work for half the price and twice the hours doesnt mean they are right. The dems want to flood us with illegal foreigners and Elon wants to replace us with cheap quasi legal foreigners. Neither is good for the American middle class.

Productive legal immigration is good. Rampant illegal immigration is bad. It's pretty simple.

Without immigration at all, we will have a declining population very soon. Plus, I'm not scared of some Indian immigrants that will do good work cheap. The economy is not a pie to be carved up into pieces but rather a fire to stoke.
