Keep this video in mind the next time some halfwit tells you that ICE should de-escalate.

Keep this video in mind the next time someone tells you that ICE had no choice but to shoot him.

There is a SIGNIFICANT difference between what happened in the two videos. Are you able to step out of your dishonesty and bias for even a moment and acknowledge what that is?

Well, the most obvious difference is that he appears much less aggressive in the video where he gets shot.

That would NOT be the most obvious difference from the perspective of the officers involved. Think you can come up with what that is? Show us that you're capable of being objective and honest for a change.

Pretty was looking for confrontation with law enforcement. Bad plan. Particularly when armed.

I am particularly attuned to the "avoid the situation" aspect of this because it was my training...my world. Yes, I was sometimes armed. But I did not have any backup. On my own. No cavalry. Had to look out to potential 3rd, 4th, 5th order effects to avoid as many scenarios for confrontation as possible....a spidey-sense of what/where could generate problems I wouldn't be able to deal with......"what can happen bad here".....and take proactive steps to avoid. If I discharged my weapon, the least that would happen was a quick PNG, a quick trip home, and a new career path, no matter how justified that discharge might have been.

In that context, Pretty acted so profoundly stupidly. If you want to fight with cops, fer crissakes don't do it with a pistol on your belt. It's pretty close to "suicide by cop."

US review of Alex Pretti killing does not mention him brandishing firearm

Funny, official report that DHS does not have him brandishing the firearm... I would think the official inquiry would.

to most people, the word "brandishing" means "holding or pointing conspicuously in a threatening way." The actual legal meaning of course varies from state to state, but is quite a bit more broad than conventional understanding. Brandishing usually means revealing the presence of a weapon in any way, to include merely inadvertently revealing it in a holster. If you are concealed carrying, you have a duty to keep the weapon concealed. If you don't.....clothes too tight.....an unfastened vest or jacket blowing open in the wind, a shirt that's too short to cover fully while lifting your arms upwards, etc.....you are brandishing the weapon.

I have a (large bellied) customer who, while in an argument with his (commercial) neighbor, got arrested for brandishing. He lifted his arm to point at street sign, and his untucked t-shirt (all he ever wore) raised up enough for the neighbor to get a glimpse of my friend's holstered pistol. Neighbor called he police. Friend beat the rap, but he did not beat the ride.

If you are justified to shoot once, then 10 times is fine.

Let's see what the investigation finds. There are a lot of possible outcomes between "suicide by cop" and "extrajudicial execution."

Well, based on Homan's discussions and the drawing down in MN and ME, I would say they realize it wasn't working and their tactics are not appropriate.

Homan is the first professional I have seen, he get's it. You can't kill the people you are trying to protect. The "mission got away from them", at least he admits it.

You know everyone can read the article, right? Your claim about Homan saying they are drawing down because things aren't working and their tactics aren't appropriate? That's a straight lie. You have no integrity.

This is my opinion. You know where I say "I would say". That indicates opinion. Here is the quote...

"Homan then acknowledged the mission "got away a little bit" from its initial intent to perform targeted operations, a sentiment not publicly vocalized by other Trump administration officials." (means exactly)

Trump border czar Homan says ICE in Minneapolis will focus on 'targeted' operations, not sweeps

You need to educate yourself on what is going on. They are drawing down. They are changing from sweeps to targeted enforcement. MN is going to cooperate on the criminal apprehensions. But, you will believe what you want. By the way, they are reducing Maine as well. THE STRATEGY IS A LOSER. They are realizing it and making changes.

It is a quid pro quo, they are drawing down and MN is cooperating on the jails. ICE is not interacting and no longer doing sweeps. It is called compromise. Adults do it, I know you wouldn't understand.

Homan is a pro, admitted the operations weren't perfect and they could to better to de-escalated. You really should do a little research.

Homan never said they could do better to de-escalate. That's more lies from you. According to Homan in your own link, there is not and will not be a draw down without measurable success. You're pretending reaction to violent insurrectionists means the original plan was bad or poorly executed. You're about to find out how Homan deals with violent insurrectionists.
