The writer of the article uses a phrase that is familiar, when he states the end to the war with Iran was relatively imminent. This is the exact phrase of the CIA assessment of war in Vietnam 5 years into and 4 years before the last helicopters lifted off from Saigon. People weren't buying in 1971 and they aren't now.

People opposed to the war support our troops and want the war to end now. Prolonging it is what Trump is currently doing. He has run through a number of exits on this war and continues to, because he is terrified of looking bad and because he refuses to understand his adversary.
