Seems like anytime anyone posts anything marginally critical of Trump, the automatic response of his supporters is "TDS!".

What the hell is that supposed to mean? I think it means "Trump Derangement Syndrome", or something like that, meaning that anybody who criticizes Trump is deranged.

Come on, guys. We're all supposed to be college-educated to some degree. Is this the best you can do in the realm of political discourse? Are you not capable of reasoning? Of some original thought?

When the only response that you can come up with is "TDS!", it looks to me like a concession that you have lost the argument. And, frankly, it makes you look stupid.
Leftists bugs me. It's like a trump card. They don't have to state facts, just call someone a leftist

After reading through the first page, I had some thoughts. First, the OP is not entirely correct, there is definitely a sort of rabid hatred that many on the left share for Trump. I think Trump has done everything in his power to inspire that rabid hatred, but quite often I see articles (not on this forum, others) linked from places like Washington Post, or Salon, which have such little basis in reality, and could only be written and read/liked by people with unbelievable amounts of hatred, so much that it clouds every bit of their natural good sense and judgement.

On the other hand, there were at least 3 posters on the first page that I noticed, who rushed to say that there is plenty of civil discourse, who were the exact ones seemingly incapable of it. If you are going to use TDS to describe rabid hatred, sure. If you are going to use it to call someone a name, then it's not valid, and name calling like that always gets in the way of civil discourse.

If someone has a point, and some attempt at evidence, then anyone claiming TDS is just BSing out of their keyboards here. I've seen that often from posters like this oldbear guy. He sees an argument, and instead of facing it head on, he tries to figure out a way to reduce it to something so beneath him, all he can do is say "TDS" or "that's evil, I am rebuking evil like the Bible says."

I have just come up with my own acronym for people like him, who will defend Trump at all costs. I think I'm going with ROML.

Rabid
Orange
Man
Love

I'll be using that from now on to combat all the senseless name calling people are vomiting all over this board. Just a light-hearted attempt at sparring with the intellectually dishonest.

I do hear 'racist' tossed around a lot. It hardly means anything now.

Conservatives I know make cogent arguments and avoid labelling people.

Some people on this board use the word 'leftist' a lot. It usually means they don't have a good argument

I haven't. I'm probably much younger than most of you old farts, and I don't talk politics with the people I normally see. I've seen the term, and never bothered to figure out what it meant. I guess it's a demeaning way of saying that someone is a partisan hack. Demeaning to dogs I mean. Not nice to make sweet puppies a part of a vicious attack.

I have family members who are Democrats who have referred to themselves as Yellow Dog Democrats. Previous poster may have been a little rude in his expression, but he is right that it's a part of Americana, like the term Yankee that started as a derogatory slur towards colonists.
Yellow Dog Democrat has a historical reference. It refers to those generations of Texans and southerners who lived through the Great Depression and saw FDR as someone who saved the country. I knew at least two rural people from that Depression era that were ready to vote for Jesse Jackson if he won the Democrat nomination. One of them directly referred to FDR as to why Jackson had his vote.

I was not "just joking" when I asked if you had never heard the term Yellow Dog Democrat. It was a legitimate question. You decided to insult other posters' (presumed) ages for no apparent reason. That is why you got the response about your (admitted) lack of historical knowledge. Had you simply said, "No, I had not heard of it," that would have been the end of it.
