Thursday, November 2nd

TCU 37 at Texas Tech 41

A Thursday night in Lubbock seems like a recipe for disaster for the Horned Frogs who have been building on the historic season they had a year ago. The Red Raiders come out on fire in this game as they build a 28-10 lead midway though the 2nd quarter. That lead gets all the way to 34-13 by the 3rd quarter before the Horned Frogs wake up. Chandler Morris throws two second half touchdowns as they chip away at the lead. The Horned Frogs cut the lead to 34-30 with 8 minutes left in the game. Unfortunately for them Tyler Shough has an answer as he leads a 7-play, 70-yard scoring drive in just over four minutes. He finds Jerand Bradley for the score which is Shough’s 5th touchdown pass of the night. Lubbock goes crazy and the goal posts don’t survive the night.

Saturday, November 4th

Houston 20 at Baylor 38

Pretty simple here. The Cougars can’t stop the run and Baylor just keeps running the football. The Bears total 280 yards rushing and win the time of possession battle 41-19. Blake Shapen throws a couple touchdown passes to Drake Dabney and Ketron Jackson as the offense really finds a groove. Houston is never really in this tough road game as the tough season continues.

Kansas State 27 at Texas 36

The Wildcats have lost six in a row against the Longhorns and that streak is going to continue in Austin this year. Both these teams will be ranked highly heading into this one but the weaknesses of the Kansas State defense continue to show late in the season as they struggle against the pass. Quinn Ewers throws for 325 yards and three touchdowns as he fully exploits the Wildcats secondary. Will Howard is able to keep pace through three quarters as the game is 22-17 heading into the 4th. But Howard is picked off by Jahdae Barron which leads to a Jaydon Blue touchdown and he is sacked three times in the quarter. The Longhorns get a massive win as this game really has people asking “Is Texas back?”

Oklahoma 56 at Oklahoma State 57

This years Bedlam Game is a legendary one not only because it’s the last one for a while but because the game is going to be CRAZY (as it should be). Both offenses total over 500 yards of total offense, both teams throw a pick six, and both teams have a special teams touchdown. The game of course goes to overtime where Dillon Gabriel finds Drake Stoops for his 5th touchdown pass of the game to give the Sooners a 56-49 lead. Then OSU RB Ollie Gordon runs in a 10-yard touchdown and Mike Gundy decides to go for two and the win. They run the Statue of Liberty and Ollie Gordon gets to the pylon before Danny Stutsman can bring him down. Pokes Win and the field is stormed.

UCF 28 at Cincinnati 26

The is a fun one between two newcomers in the Big 12. Both teams play well for the most part in this game as each post over 350 yards of offense, both defenses force a couple turnovers, and both play get timely stops. Ultimately this game comes down to quarterback play which happens a lot in this league. John Rhys Plumlee’s experience and athleticism is what gives the Knights the win as he totals 100 yards and leads two scoring drives in the 4th quarter to put the Bearcats away.

Kansas 21 at Iowa State 20

Ugly game for both of these teams but certainly a game that might catapult one to a strong finish while sending the other into a complete spiral. Jalon Daniels and Devin Neal carry the ball 45 times in this game for just 150 yards but they need every single one as the passing game only goes for 135 yards on the day. The Cyclones defense has an inspired performance but true freshman JJ Kohl’s two interceptions and big missed throws lead to the loss. The Jayhawks survive a trip to Ames.

BYU 24 at West Virginia 28

The miraculous Mountaineer season continues as they were picked to finished dead last in the league but they keep playing hard for their coach and the offensive line keeps being one of the best in the league. CJ Donaldson paces WVU with 180 yards and two scores while Garrett Greene contributes another 50 and a score. The ground attack works well while the passing game hits on enough plays to keep BYU honest. The Cougars battle but come up short as the Big 12 weekly grind is wearing on them right now.

Going back:

The 1963 All America football team: 2 from Baylor: Elkins and Trull and 2 from (cough cough) Texas: Appleton and Ford. They were the only ones from the old SWC.
