Turnovers Doom No. 13 Bears at No. 4 Jayhawks, 64-61
LAWRENCE, Kansas — The No. 13 Baylor Bears (17-6, 6-4) could not finish their double-digit comeback in Allen Fieldhouse with Ja’Kobe Walter and Jayden Nunn both missing shots at overtime in the final seconds before losing 64-61 to the No. 13 Kansas Jayhawks (19-5, 7-4).
The Bears were kept in the game by their star freshman duo of Walter and Yves Missi. Missi posted 21 points and eight rebounds in 29 minutes while Walter scored 17 and grabbed eight rebounds of his own.
Walter’s pair of second-half triples spurred the Bears in their erasure of most of a 12-point deficit.
However, Baylor’s 21 turnovers on the night killed what was a good chance to earn a second-ever win in Allen Fieldhouse.
Walter had some of the biggest struggles in this department with five giveaways. RayJ Dennis was the only Bear to top that number with six of his own to go along with his three points, seven rebounds and 8 assists. Joshua Ojianwuna and Jalen Bridges had four and three turnovers respectively.
The Bears now get to come home for a midweek game against Oklahoma before embarking on a two-game road trip to Morgantown and Provo.
The Tuesday tilt between the Bears and the Sooners tips off from Foster Pavilion at 8 PM CT and will be available to watch on ESPN 2.
